Faculty coordinators for international relations

Every exchange student is assigned to a particular faculty according to the courses chosen, the assigned faculty is indicated in the Letter of Acceptance and/or Learning Agreement.

Each faculty has a coordinator for international relations. Faculty coordinators are responsible for advising incoming exchange students on academic issues, organization of studies, academic regulations, and requirements. If students have any questions concerning studies or learning agreements, they should be addressed to the faculty coordinators.

Contact details of faculty coordinators are available here.

Lithuanian language course

Lithuanian Language Course (LLC) offers international students an opportunity to study one of the oldest languages in the world.

Students can take basic LLC which will help them with daily life in Lithuania. Exchange students who would like to attend LLC at VILNIUS TECH must select it while completing their online application. Students can also add LLC to their Learning Agreement within 3 weeks after the beginning of studies.

The course is free of charge and is organized at a convenient time, starting from the second week of the semester.

Successful completion of the course is worth 3 ECTS credits.

Physical activity course

VILNIUS TECH Sports and Arts Center offers physical activity courses for exchange students.

The final list of sports teams/groups is announced only a few weeks prior to the semester; therefore, students can add a course to their Learning Agreement only after arrival at VILNIUS TECH.

Successful completion of the course is worth 3 ECTS credits.

More information is available on the website of Sports and Arts Center.

Accommodation

Students can choose to live in the University dormitory, co-living spaces, youth hostels and/or hotels, or to rent a private apartment in the city.

VILNIUS TECH dormitory

VILNIUS TECH international student dormitory is located on Saulėtekis campus. It takes about 7-10 min to walk to the Central building and faculties of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Business Management and Fundamental Sciences, and about 15 min to walk to the Plytines campus and faculties of Electronics, Mechanics and Transport Engineering.

Address: Dormitory No 6, Saulėtekio al. 39A-1, Vilnius.

Registration for a place in VILNIUS TECH dormitory starts in mid-June/mid-December. Registration details are provided ONLY to accepted exchange students.

The price for 1 person in the shared dormitory room is 220-260 EUR/month. The deposit (600 EUR) has to be paid within 3 days after arrival.

Due to a limited number of available places, the single room option is not available.

For more information, please visit our website or contact dormitory administrator Jonas Rutkauskas directly at crypt:PGEgaHJlZj0ibWFpbHRvOmpvbmFzLnJ1dGthdXNrYXNAdmlsbml1c3RlY2gubHQiPmpvbmFzLnJ1dGthdXNrYXNAdmlsbml1c3RlY2gubHQ8L2E+:xx.

Co-living, youth hostel or hotel

There is a variety of co-living spaces, hostels and hotels which may meet your preferences and needs. Hostels are optional for students looking for short-term rent at a lower cost. Hotels can offer higher quality and service.

Some co-living spaces and youth hostels in Vilnius that are student-friendly:
  • Solo Society Co-living
  • Co-living space Chapters
  • SHED Co-living Vilnius
  • Filaretai hostel
  • Downtown Forest Hostel & Camping
Students should keep in mind that hostels usually offer short-term accommodation. You may use this option if you plan to look for a long-term rent after arrival.

There are also a few long-term accommodation oriented hotels in Vilnius:
  • Corner Hotel
  • Green Hotel

Private accommodation

It is also possible to rent a flat in the city. The price for a 1 bedroom flat in the city is around 400-600 EUR per month though well-furnished places tend to be more expensive.
You can find some offers in en.aruodas.lt, en.domoplius.lt, Airbnb or other similar websites.

Our tips:
  • Sharing an apartment with other students is cheaper than living alone;
  • carefully read the rental agreement, ask for a translation to the English language;
  • be aware of scammers;
  • ask your mentor (local student) to make the first call;
  • it is more complicated to find a place for 5-6 months than for 9-12 months. Negotiate with the landlord to sign a contract for a shorter period by offering your service to find other students to stay after your departure. There are always new exchange students coming each semester.
Should you need any help or guidance with finding the most suitable place, please contact us at crypt:PGEgaHJlZj0ibWFpbHRvOmV4Y2hhbmdlQHZpbG5pdXN0ZWNoLmx0Ij5leGNoYW5nZUB2aWxuaXVzdGVjaC5sdDwvYT4=:xx.

Students coming from non-EU countries and staying in Lithuania for a period longer than 90 days, need to obtain a National (D) visa. If you have not yet started the visa application process, please read the information below carefully:

We strongly recommend scheduling an appointment at the Embassy of Lithuania or an authorized visa center as soon as possible, as visa issuance may take longer than expected.

●  To get a national visa you must electronically via the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS) fill-out the application to issue the national visa and include digital copies of the requested documents. After filling-out the request and booking the visitation time at the Embassy of Lithuania or an authorized visa center you must personally address in regards to the issuance of visa and submit the biometric data, as well as original documents.

Important! When filling out the application, in the “Inviter“ part please select “Legal person“ and fill out the rest:
Legal entity code: 111950243
The title: Vilnius Gediminas Technical University

●  The inviting higher education institution must electronically via the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS) submit mediation letter (in your visa application, you will have to indicate the number of the mediation letter) - VILNIUS TECH International Relations Office will issue the document only upon your request. Please request it at crypt:PGEgaHJlZj0ibWFpbHRvOmV4Y2hhbmdlQHZpbG5pdXN0ZWNoLmx0Ij5leGNoYW5nZUB2aWxuaXVzdGVjaC5sdDwvYT4=:xx.

Note: Mediation letter can be issued only if you are already accepted for an exchange at VILNIUS TECH (received Letter of Acceptance).

●  Document about sufficient means of subsistence (e. g., bank account statement, confirmation of Erasmus+ scholarship)
The subsistence amount is 0,5 minimum monthly salary per month, the amount for return to the country of origin or a foreign country to which you are entitled to travel, the amount of funds – 1 minimum monthly salary.
Funds or received regular income must be sufficient to live in Lithuania for the entire period of validity of the visa. These documents may be submitted in English or a certified-by-the-interpreter’s-signature translation to English from a different language may be submitted.

●  Health insurance document, valid during the stay in Lithuania and in all the Schengen countries
Health insurance must guarantee the reimbursement of the necessary medical expenses, as defined in the Republic of Lithuania Law on Health, and expenses that may arise due to the return of the alien to a foreign state for health reasons (transportation, including escort of a personal health care specialist (specialists)). The sum insured must be at least EUR 30,000.

As an exchange student - you are exempted from the state fee for examination of applications to issue national visa and taking decisions to issue a national visa.

The up-to-date information about the process of visa application is available in the website of our Migration department.

FOR NON-EU CITIZENS STUDYING IN EUROPEAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION:

Students that have a valid temporary residence permit or a national visa issued by another Member State of the European Union, may come to continue studies and stay in the Republic of Lithuania without a visa for a maximum of 90 days. Therefore, you need to obtain a National (D) visa. Please follow the steps and ready the information above carefully.

FOR EU/EEA CITIZENS:

Citizens from EU/EEA countries and Switzerland are not required a visa to enter Lithuania. However, students staying in Lithuanian for a period longer than 90 days, must obtain a certificate of temporary residence in the Republic of Lithuania and declare their place of residence.

Shortly, why you need to apply for it:
„A citizen of the EU and EFTA Member State (hereinafter referred to in general as an EU citizen) may arrive in Lithuania and stay there up to three months counting from the first day of his/her arrival in the country. If a person stays in Lithuania longer than three months, he/she must have documents certifying his right to temporarily or permanently reside in Lithuania. Then, having declared his/her place of residence in Lithuania, an EU citizen acquires the right to all social guarantees of the Republic of Lithuania“.

To apply for this certificate, you are required to submit the following documents:
●  A document confirming the ground for the issuance of the certificate (confirming that student has been admitted to a higher education institution) – go to mano.vilniustech.lt -> My documents -> Certificates -> order certificate -> certificate about student status.
After the document is ready, you need to go to the Dean’s office of your faculty to pick it up personally.
●  A document certifying the valid health insurance (the insurance must be valid in the territory of Lithuania, e.g., the European Health Insurance Card);

●  A document certifying that You have sufficient resources for living in the Republic of Lithuania. 157 Eur is the minimum amount you should have for one month of living in Lithuania per person – you can submit a financial agreement for Erasmus+ scholarship issued by your university translated to English or Lithuanian language) or bank statement about the funds available (could also be a screenshot of your bank account – preferably with details in English language);

●  Valid passport or identity card (the data must be verified against the EU citizen’s data indicated in the application);

To acquire this certificate, you have to:
1.  Submit your application and documents for the issue of the certificate in person through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS) -> For Foreigners -> choose your citizenship -> temporary residence certificate -> I am admitted to study at an educational institution according to the programme (programmes) of general education...
2.  Afterwards you must personally come to the Migration Department and submit the original documents, biometric data and sign the application. For the issuance of the certificate, you‘ll be asked to pay the fee of 10 EUR . We strongly recommend you to visit the department as soon as possible.
3.  After submission of required documents, you‘ll be asked to fill out a document to declare your living place in Vilnius. As the document (so far) was in Lithuanian language only, I attach you an example (not for printing!) and translation of some parts that you will have to complete. The original document is also attached. You can submit a declaration of residence to the branch of the Migration Department when withdrawing the certificate.
The certificate will be issued no later than one month from the date of submission of the application.
More information about the required documents is available in the website of our Migration Department.

Study procedures: middle tests, homework and course projects

Students have to settle on all middle tests, homework, course projects and other independent assignments before the exam session. Students who fail to pass the course project (including complex) by the deadline cannot attend the exam.

Students who did not settle for the middle tests, homework, course projects and other independent assignments during the semester, they can do that during the exam session before the exam with the prior registration in the department.

Students who failed to settle for half of the assignments before the exam are not entitled for the cumulative assessment scores.

Before submitting the course project (complex project) student has to fill in and the Declaration of authorship. If the plagiarism is detected, the lecturer has to inform the dean of the faculty and the disciplinary actions will be taken.

Examination session

Exams schedule for students must be published at least one month before the start of the exam session. The session schedules are published in VILNIUS TECH information system mano.vilniustech.lt

The exam results are announced within two days after the exam.

Examination retakes are organized after the examination session. If a student, for justified reasons, can not take the exam during the exam session, the Dean sets a new date, postponing the session with the Dean's decree. Master students, whose studies are organized in cycles, can take each subject exam before the end of the session only once.

Exams 'E1' (e.g., language courses, physical activity, etc.) are taken before the exam session. Exams "E" are taken during the exam session according to the session schedule.

Business Management faculty Master cycle studies are organized in cycles (one course is followed for approx. 1 month, intensively). Examinations of these courses are organised at the end of each cycle.
