GEODESY AND CARTOGRAPHY

Degree
Master of Engineering Sciences

Length
2 years (4 semesters)

Study language
Lithuanian

Start
1st of September

Entry Qualification
To this programme applicants are accepted from the fields of: Measurement Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Transport Engineering, Physical Sciences (Geology, Environmental Sciences, Physical Geography).

Land surface measurement and mapping are the main tasks of geodesy and cartography specialists. Geodetic and cartographic information is the primary data on a spatial data infrastructure relevant for experts and users in other fields.

The study programme is aimed at training specialists who possess the latest specific knowledge of geodesy and cartography, manage to apply modern methods and technologies and are capable of accumulating, storing, displaying and analysing geodetic and cartographic data.

The Master’s study programme in Geodesy and Cartography offers a specialization in Geographic information systems.

Geographic information systems are an area relevant to specialists in various fields and help with answering many questions of public importance. The information system concentrates on collecting, storing, displaying, editing, integrating and analysing digital spatially coordinated data.
The data obtained from the Geographic Information System (GIS) relates to the geographical location and helps the user to answer questions WHAT? is WHERE? The collected data assists with selecting the best place to install wind farms or finding information on the areas that might be flooded. A digital map developed using geographic information technology and supplemented with spatial analysis tools helps in answering the above introduced questions.
The students of this specialization master modern methods and technologies applied for building and developing geographic information systems and conducting research on the use of geographic information systems.
