BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (MBA)

Entry Qualification To this programme applicants are accepted from all study fields if they have at least of 2 year experiance in management field.

 

Hybrid learning approach is applied in this study programme. Hybrid learning is an educational model where some students attend class in-person, while others join the class virtually from home. 

 

This is a master study programme (Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation module) of the double diploma implemented together with University of Montpellier (France).

 

Students have a possibility to take a visit to the University of Motpellier for  one semester and, upon collecting less than 45 per cent of credits after finishing the studies, to be awarded diplomas of the master‘s qualification degree of both universities.

 

Prevailing trends in the work environment demonstrate significant changes in the labor market. Automation and an increasing share of non-standard forms of employment raise new challenges for both employees and employers. Meanwhile, the polarization of the labor market has been increasing in the OECD countries. According to the European Center for the Development of Vocational Training (Cedefop), the need for replacement remains in the group of administrative and commercial managers in sectors such as accommodation and catering, education, legal and financial accounting. In addition, the need to replace production and specialized service managers has been observed in insurance, telecommunications, transportation, and other sectors.

Cooperation, communication, teamwork skills, data evaluation and analysis skills, continuous and independent learning, analytical thinking skills, interdisciplinary thinking, problem solving skills are the most significant for managers in various industries (e.g., food, chemistry, furniture, wood, machinery and equipment, etc.). Therefore, companies are seeking to recruit executives and senior managers who demonstrate strategic knowledge of business analysis and transformational leadership skills required for the evaluation of business management processes, the development of human resource management strategies, the development of new technologies and services, finance and investment, and the projection of economic decisions.

The aim of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme is to prepare masters of business administration who are able to creatively apply the latest knowledge of management science and business management, know how to create and manage modern business organizations, systematically analyse and solve practical business issues by using the latest technology-based business and environmental research methods, make innovative management decisions and identify their potential impact on the environment, and be prepared for self-improvement through lifelong learning.

The MBA programme focuses on the development of competencies required for the creation, management, and development of businesses in strategically important industries. The MBA programme integrates general management concepts and experiential learning approaches based on business practices, allowing students to evaluate business management processes related to human resource management strategies, development of new technological products and services, finance and investment, and economic business decision engineering. Students have a unique opportunity to develop their decision-making skills and expand their competencies by selecting alternative study modules, creating conditions to increase knowledge and develop skills relevant for professional activity.

The Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation module is developed for those students who want to be able to see the benefits of technology, establish and manage start-ups, and be able to anticipate the future and role of technology in business, society, and personal life.

The Human Resource Management module is developed for those students who want to develop human resource management policies, strategies, and shape innovative employee behavior required to improve the organization's response to rapidly changing environmental conditions, ensure business continuity, competitiveness, and sustainable performance.

The Business Finance for Executives module is developed for those students who seek to create company budgets, perform financial analysis and forecasting, and make financial decisions under conditions of risk and uncertainty.

The Business Economic Decisions Engineering module is developed for those students who seek to apply economic knowledge to the analysis of sustainable business development and the economic behavior of organizations and conduct empirical research on economic solutions.

 

Students who have chosen one of the alternative modules will conduct practical research in Lithuanian and foreign organizations during the final subject of the MBA program for the purpose to solve real business problems in organizations. The outcome of these practical studies is a complex project and its public defense with the participation of business specialists and consultants from various fields.

 

Knowledge and its application:
Students will have knowledge of modern management theories and methods, organizational behaviour, leadership, change, and strategic business analysis, which will be able to apply in assessing business management processes, solving human resource management, innovation and technological entrepreneurship, business finance, business economic decisions, engineering management problems, and objectives in a changing business environment.

 

Research skills:
Students will be able to analyse, systematize, and evaluate the information required for business management decision-making from various data sources, will be able to critically evaluate business management development ideas, formulate arguments and assumptions for business management solution alternatives, applying quantitative and qualitative, technology-based methods, to conduct the researches of selected business problems case studies and interpret the results from the interdisciplinary perspective.

 

Special skills:
Students will be able to apply a systematic approach to analysing, evaluating, and modelling human resource management strategies, solve non-routine human resource management objectives in the context of uncertainty, integrate subject knowledge in evaluating and developing new measures needed for effective human resource management decision making and research.

Students will be able to systematically analyse and evaluate business innovation processes, using the latest technologies to model innovation processes, create technological start-ups, organize and manage technology transfer processes, apply subject knowledge under uncertainty in forming strategic decisions needed to create, disseminate, and apply innovations in organizations.

Students will be able to systematically analyse and evaluate business financial statements, calculate absolute and relative indicators and interpret their results, critically evaluate and forecast the benefits of business investments, model business continuity scenarios, applying the latest technologies, assessing business financial and operational risks and their management means, and accept sound financial management decisions.

Students will be able to solve the objectives of sustainable business development in the modern economy, applying decision economic forecasting, computer simulation models to evaluate business alternatives; to analyse the economic indicators of the industry, enterprise, or their group, applying the knowledge based on the macroeconomic and microeconomic behaviour of business entities, economic fluctuations, and business cyclicality; to design economic research; to apply statistical and mathematical research methods for the economic justification of a business idea.

 

Social skills:
Students will be able to communicate fluently in writing and orally with business representatives and other stakeholders, discuss relevant issues of business development and management practices, including presentation of ideas, preparation of business reports, consulting, and experts’ evaluation; will be able to plan, organize, and carry out work individually and in groups, evaluate the effectiveness of group work, analyze the principles of group formation, delegation, and coordination of tasks, will be guided by professional ethics and citizenship.

 

Personal skills:
Students will be able to independently make management decisions under conditions of complexity and uncertainty, initiate and manage business activities, choose the direction of development, and constantly develop independently; will be able to demonstrate critical, systematic, and logical thinking skills in making management decisions based on the assessment of opportunities and consequences, will understand the moral and social responsibility for their activities and its ethical consequences; will be able to ensure the confidentiality of the information.

    Module aim

    To to provide theoretical knowledge focused on the perception of organizational behaviour and to develop skills, which let conceptualize and solve problematic issues of work-related human behaviour; to train students to apply analytical tools relevant for analysis and development of organizational behaviour models.

    Module description

    This course provides knowledge in the field of organizational behaviour and develops skills required to assess and predict work-related human behaviour in the organization, to understand and describe organizational behaviour objectives, to identify factors impacting activities of teams and groups, to identify and apply appropriate behaviour strategies in conflicts, to understand and properly address issues of organizational culture development.

    Change Management

    Module aim

    To provide knowledge related to change management, to introduce change management processes and the variety of methods used in it, to develop ability to apply acquired knowledge in order to identify and argue the need for change, to initiate change management, to assess business management processes and organizational resources, to form strategic decisions related to the efficient implementation of change in a dynamic business environment.

    Module description

    The study subject of change management is designed for students of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program to provide knowledge related to change management theories, change management processes and the variety of methods used in identifying the need for change, initiating change management, assessing business management processes and organizational resources, forming strategic decisions related to the efficient implementation of change in a dynamic business environment.
    Aiming to achieve the results of the course, the students must conduct the following tasks: analyse cases of business changes processes management, identify and solve problems, prepare and present presentations, pass the exam. The students discuss about their progress in general discussions and consult with professors. While preparing for the exam, the students read the main literature of the course, participate in the lectures, participate in general discussions, which analyse business cases, prepare homework and presentations.

    Strategic Analysis of Business

    Module aim

    To provide knowledge about the principles of postmodern organizational development management and at the same time the ability to adapt the basic schemes of strategic business analysis, the results of which are oriented to reasonably prepare and adopt effective decisions and action programs for their implementation in the context of globalisation and uncertainty.

    Module description

    The course of business strategic analysis examines the strategic business situation in the global context of opportunities and threats created by the external environment, details and prioritizes business environment factors and identifies key strategic capabilities, updates goals and expectations, develops corporations, business unit level strategies. Taking into account the postmodern principles of strategy formation and analyzing and evaluating relevant good practice, students adapt the main models and methods of solving strategic management tasks, reveal the role of leadership strategists. The course identifies the factors influencing the selection of the optimal strategy, solutions and tools that enable the successful implementation of the chosen strategy.

    Modern Organization Management

    Module aim

    To provide the latest knowledge of management theory and develop the ability to apply it, to deal effectively with the practical problems of a modern complex business.

    Module description

    Modern organization management course is focused on the peculiarities of modern organization management and the possibilities of applying the latest management theories. The interpretation of organizations as research objects for systems theory, the diversity of modern organizations and their management problems. The effectiveness of organizations, i.e., planning, organization and control, are explored. Leadership in modern organizations and decision-making, quantitative decision-making methods are also discussed.

    Module aim

    To enable students to apply the knowledge gained during the Business Administration MBA study program in practice, to strengthen the ability effectively manage in solving human resource strategy problems, to summarize the results of human resource strategy selection in the report and to formulate grounded recommendations for human resource strategy improvement.

    Module description

    Human Resource Management Strategies – is the final course of the Business Administration MBA study program, which integrates the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired during the compulsory and courses of the program. The students conduct internships in Lithuanian and foreign organizations. During the internship, the problem of human resources strategy in the selected organization is solved. Aiming to solve the problem, a detailed assessment of the business sector, analysis of problems in the field of human resource management, evaluation of strategic alternatives and recommendations for the implementation of the selected strategy are performed.

    Module aim

    Aim of the course is to provide knowledge about innovation ecosystems, stimulation of the innovation process, establishment of technological Startups and to develop the ability to apply contemporary innovation management methodologies for the development of technology based business.

    Technology innovation and entrepreneurship course is dedicated to Business management master (MBA) program students to develop skills for creation and development of technology and engineering based business solutions and create and develop system innovation in the context of those businesses.
    Aiming to achieve the results of the course, the students will analyse cases of innovation development and business processes management; will solve practical issues; will analyse technology cycles; will present and discus results. Moreover, students have to conduct homework according to the task given by professor, as well as pass the intermediate and final exam. The students discuss about their progress in general discussions and consult with professors. While preparing for the exam, the students read the main literature of the course, participate in the lectures, participate in general discussions, which analyse cases.

    Module aim

    The aim of the course “Creation and reengineering of business processes” is to develop the practical ability to identify and analyse the problems of process management in organizations by combining and applying the knowledge, that was gained in the module “Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship” and in the other courses of the program and to solve them by presenting an integrated project of process creation and / or reengineering by applying the latest information technologies.

    Module description

    Creation and reengineering of business processes is an integral part of the Master of Business Administration (MBA) study program designed to develop the ability to integrate and apply knowledge gained in the module “Technological Innovation and Entrepreneurship” and in the other courses and to solve business process management problems in organizations. During the preparation integrated project, the students get acquainted with the experience of business process management in organization, and acquire practical abilities and skills to identify process management problems and solve them by submitting a project of process development and / or reengineering.

    Module aim

    To provide financial management knowledge and develop the skills required for business leaders to understand how firms meet their financial objectives comprehensively applying the company’s financial condition assessment methods, budget planning principles, risk identification, assessment and management tools, making financial management decisions in complex and uncertain business situations.

    Module description

    The study module Financial Management for Executives examines the essential issues that arise for Executives in managing the finances of a company or organization, e. g. budgeting, financial analysis and forecasting, and risk management. The study subject provides knowledge and skills to manage the company’s finances, forecast and make adequate financial decisions under risk and uncertainty.

    This module is the final module of the Business Administration MBA study program, which integrates the theoretical knowledge and skills acquired during the compulsory and courses of the program. The students conduct internships in Lithuanian and foreign organizations. During the internship, students solve problems related to financial analysis and forecasting. In this way, they acquire practical abilities and skills in applying financial analysis and forecasting methods.     Module aim

    To provide theoretical knowledge about the conditions of business development in the modern economy, business behavioral economics, quantitative research methods and practical skills to apply them to the analysis of economic phenomena and business economic decision-making.

    Module description

    The knowledge acquired in the “Business Economic Decisions Engineering” module will allow performing the analysis of economic indicators and processes of various economic sectors and entities, in the context of behavioral economics and modern economy, to assess the characteristics of the analyzed phenomena quantitatively and to select economic forecasting methods properly. Students will be able to evaluate business economic decisions made in specific situations. By applying economic forecasting of solutions, computer simulation models will be able to evaluate business alternatives; to analyze the business behavioral economics indicators, company or their group.

    Module aim

    To apply the knowledge of economic analysis and forecasting, acquired during studies in practice, using quantitative research methods, independent research skills, to develop the ability to summarize the results of designing business economic solutions.

    Module description

    Projecting of Economic decisions is a discipline that combines economic analysis and forecasting theory knowledge with the practice of business in practical activities of a particular company or other organization. During the course, students will be able to select and apply appropriate quantitative methods. During the internship students are developing competence to design the most profitable use of limited resources when making decisions.
