Digital Defense Competence Centre
The Digital Defence Competence Centre is a research and innovation centre established in spring 2025. It develops solutions to strengthen national security and resilience, particularly in response to hybrid threats.
In the future, the Centre aims to become one of the leading digital defence competence centres in the Baltic region. Plans include the development of advanced laboratories, the implementation of AI-based crisis management simulation environments, and the expansion of long-term partnerships with European Union and NATO organisations. The Centre will operate as an innovation platform where solutions are developed to enhance the resilience of society and the state.
The Centre’s activities are important not only for the University but also for the overall growth of Lithuania’s digital security. It contributes to shaping national defence strategy while integrating into international innovation and security ecosystems. This represents an important step towards a stronger, technologically advanced, and secure state.
About the Centre
Advanced AI Technologies
The Centre aims to strengthen national digital defence capabilities by using advanced AI technologies. It develops automated threat detection tools, language models used in analytical processes, and systems for the assessment of cyber incidents. These solutions are designed to address real security needs across the public sector, defence institutions, and business.
Innovative Operating Model
The Centre fosters close collaboration between researchers, public institutions, and technology companies, and its activities extend beyond the academic field. It organises joint projects, experimental workshops, and training sessions, and engages international partners such as Google, NVIDIA, and other innovation leaders. This enables the development of solutions that can be applied in practice without delay.
Modern Infrastructure
The Centre is equipped with AI and machine learning servers, advanced data storage solutions, digital forensics tools, and a modern cyber testing environment. This infrastructure enables the development of not only prototypes but also mature, market-ready solutions. Particular focus is placed on tools for information warfare, disinformation management, and crisis simulation.
Interdisciplinary Team
The team includes cybersecurity specialists, AI researchers, and data analysts. Further development will involve the inclusion of additional experts, particularly in digital forensics, public sector IT systems, and national security. Researchers collaborate with the military, special services, and European institutions.
