Sustainability laboratories
Laboratories and makerspaces
The Sustainability Hub laboratories are creative spaces where ideas become real solutions. Here, everyone can not only develop their sustainability ideas but also experiment, create, and test prototypes. It is a place where data analysis, innovation development, and practical skills come together – from developing new products to applying responsible consumption principles. Even everyday activities gain new meaning here.
Data laboratory
The Data Laboratory is a space for environmental data analysis and the development of solutions based on urban ecosystem modelling.
-
Sustainability challenges are addressed through data generation, processing, and modelling using data from different sources.
-
Work is carried out with databases and data visualisation tools.
-
Environmental processes are modelled, predicted, and visualised to address real challenges in urban ecosystems and environmental protection.
-
Knowledge is developed on how to integrate data into studies and environmental and ecosystem monitoring using stationary and mobile data collection systems.
Eco-design laboratory
The Eco-design Laboratory is a space where the environmental impact of products is analysed and innovative solutions are developed to support more sustainable production and consumption models.
-
The product life cycle (Life Cycle Assessment, LCA) is analysed, evaluating environmental impact at all stages, from raw material extraction to waste disposal.
-
In a dedicated recycling, experimentation, and design space, new environmental solutions and products are developed by applying circular economy principles and using recycled plastic for 3D printing.
-
Various secondary materials are used to create prototypes of new products.
-
Educational activities and knowledge dissemination are carried out, including teaching ecological design principles and their practical application.
Sustainable consumption laboratory
The Sustainable Consumption Laboratory is a space where it is demonstrated in practice how everyday kitchen waste can become valuable resources and help develop more responsible consumption habits.
-
Circular bioeconomy principles are demonstrated through technology: food and kitchen waste are converted into energy resources in a bioreactor, while compost is used in the food cultivation cycle.
-
Practical examples show how to reduce the environmental footprint and climate impact of the food system by reducing food waste and sorting food and kitchen waste.
-
Educational activities and events are organised on sustainable use of food resources and Zero Waste principles.
Food laboratory
The Food Laboratory is a space for the VILNIUS TECH community dedicated to sustainable cooking, education, and the promotion of food culture.
-
Every member of the VILNIUS TECH community can prepare or enjoy their own food in a welcoming and open environment.
-
Meals can be enhanced with fresh herbs grown on-site.
-
It is possible to learn about the principles and ideas of sustainable food consumption.
-
Opportunities are provided to participate in cooking workshops and educational activities that promote a sustainable lifestyle.
