Library Director Re-elected as Chair of the Lithuanian Research Library Consortium
On March 26, during the General Meeting of Members of the Lithuanian Research Library Consortium (hereinafter – LMBA or the Consortium), elections were held for the positions of LMBA Chair, Deputy Chair, Council, and Audit Commission. Ingrida Kasperaitienė, Director of the VILNIUS TECH Library, was re-elected as LMBA Chair for another term.
The aim of the Association is to subscribe to electronic databases for its members, ensure the necessary funding, maintain continuous communication with publishers, collect information on the needs of Lithuanian researchers, analyze statistical indicators of database usage, and promote the professional development of librarians. Currently, the Association unites 36 members: 15 universities, 6 research institutes/centers, 12 colleges, Lithuanian Martynas Mažvydas National Library, and 2 specialized libraries.
The subscription to the required databases is financed in accordance with the procedure approved by Order No. V-351 of the Minister of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania, dated March 4, 2022, which regulates the selection and funding of research and study databases.
In 2025, funding for ensuring access to essential electronic research databases was supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of the Republic of Lithuania, which allocated EUR 6,367,000 to LMBA for annual subscriptions to information resources, on the condition that institutions contribute 22% co-financing from their own funds.
In total, for 2025, 102 databases were subscribed for libraries through LMBA, using funding allocated by the Ministry and co-financing from libraries. During the reporting year, LMBA institutions subscribed to 14 databases and 2 tools using their own funds. Lithuanian institutions have access to more than 65,000 e-journals, 958,800 e-books, 97,000 other documents, and, thanks to projects carried out in previous years, 6 archives.
During the reporting period, more than 5.591 million full-text documents were downloaded from subscribed databases, which is 13% more than in 2024.
