History of the Faculty
1956
The origins of the Faculty date back to the establishment of the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Vilnius Evening Division of the former Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI).
1961
The official date of the Faculty’s establishment. The Vilnius Branch of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) is founded with two faculties: Instrument Engineering and Mechanical Technology. The Faculty of Instrument Engineering is the predecessor of the current Faculty of Electronics.
1962
The first group of Electrical Power Supply Engineers graduates from the Department of Electrical Engineering.
1964
At that time, the Faculty comprised four departments: General Physics, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, and Radio Equipment Technology.
1966
A Department of Radio Electronics is created, and the previous Department of Mathematics is renamed the Department of Computing Technology and Mathematics, launching the training of the first engineers in computer development and programming.
1969
The Faculty is renamed the Faculty of Automation, and two departments are established within it: the Department of Radio Equipment Technology and the Department of Electrical Drive Technology.
1987
The Faculty temporarily rejoins Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI).
1988-1990
The Faculty took an active role in the Sąjūdis movement and its events, with the Sąjūdis group “Vilfa” functioning within the Faculty.
1991
The Faculty rejoins Vilnius Technical University and adopts its present name, the Faculty of Electronics.
1991
Three departments are established: the Department of Automation, the Department of Radio Equipment, and the Department of Radio Electronics.
2002
The Department of Telecommunications Engineering is established.
2002
The Faculty relocates from its long-standing premises at 7A Aušros Vartų Street to the VILNIUS TECH Electronics Building at 41 Naugarduko Street.
2017
The current organisational structure of the Faculty is established, including three departments, two institutes, and two laboratories.
2023
The Faculty relocates to new premises at 25 Plytinės Street, which become a modern space for studies and research.
