The Information Technology and Systems Centre monitors the university’s information systems and computer workstations. It implements various measures to increase their security and carries out regular security checks.
However, technical and software measures alone are not enough to ensure the security of information systems and workstations. The human factor plays a very important role. The user – often the weakest link in cyber security – is usually a person.
It is therefore essential that university staff and students always act responsibly in cyberspace and are prepared to correctly assess incoming internet traffic to their computers, such as emails and other requests. These may hide cyber attacks that use social engineering methods.
The IT and Systems Centre also runs cyber security exercises, organises seminars and provides other information to staff about emerging threats. Relevant information is published on the ManoVILNIUSTECH self-service portal.
We also recommend visiting the website of the National Cyber Security Centre. It publishes the latest security news and allows you to check whether your home computer or other smart devices are vulnerable.
The Information Technology and Systems Centre has prepared a short guide (cheat sheet / instructions) to help identify potentially dangerous emails.
We invite everyone to read it. Following this guide should make it easier to spot suspicious or harmful emails received.
Following the recommendation from the National Cyber Security Centre, you can check the security of your email account.
On the website https://haveibeenpwned.com/, enter your email address to immediately see whether your email account details have been leaked and made public in any known data breaches.
