LitNet

The Lithuanian Research and Education Computer Network LITNET is a computer network that connects teaching, research, and study institutions in the Republic of Lithuania.

The main objective of LITNET is to provide advanced and high-quality network services to all teaching, research, and study institutions across the country.

LITNET supplies data transmission and internet services to all higher education institutions, research institutes, other institutions in the research and study system, as well as many education and culture institutions, libraries, and museums.

LITNET forms part of other organisations:

• Since 2000, LITNET has participated in the European academic network GÉANT (from October 2004 as part of the GÉANT-2 project). It contributes to the development of a common European higher education and research area. LITNET aligns the expansion of its infrastructure and the introduction of the latest services with the timelines and requirements of the European academic network GÉANT project for national networks.
• LITNET is a member of international computer network organisations (such as TERENA, CEENet, FIRST, and others). It represents the interests of Lithuanian research and study institutions in these organisations.
