Two-factor authentication (2FA), also known as multi-factor authentication (MFA), two-step verification or dual authentication, is a security method that confirms a user’s identity using more than one verification factor.

The user first enters their password. Then, login is confirmed through a second step, usually via a phone call, text message or a dedicated authentication application.

This process is essential to protect users’ personal data and university accounts.
