January 13th Memorial Station
What did January 13, 1991, sound like? You can hear the story and gain a deeper understanding of the significance of the Day of Defenders of Freedom at the old LRT Radio entrance, home to the January 13th Memorial Station.
This project, commissioned by Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT), commemorates the events of the Lithuanian Sąjūdis movement and Lithuania’s liberation from the Soviet Union.
The station is simple to use: with the press of a button, visitors can select an LRT audio recording from the night of January 13, 1991. When the recording begins, the “On Air” sign above the main doors lights up. The location itself is historically significant, as bullet marks from that fateful night remain visible at the old LRT Radio entrance.
The project was implemented in collaboration with partners DADADA Studio, Matomatika, and Lithuanian National Radio and Television.
