Institute of Building Materials

About the Institute

The Institute of Building Materials has been part of the Faculty of Civil Engineering since July 2017.

The Institute carries out the following activities:

  • Development and improvement of production technologies for ceramic products, silicate products, mortars, and concrete products
  • Research on the use of production waste in the manufacturing of building materials
  • Development of new building materials with specific properties and design of their production technologies
  • Implementation of production quality control and quality management systems in building materials companies in line with European standards

Main Areas of Activity

  • Development of new composite materials using local raw materials
  • Use of industrial waste in ceramic and concrete products
  • Use of chemical and mineral additives for modifying cement-based composites
  • Quality assessment of construction products and materials
  • Evaluation of the strength and durability of concrete and concrete environmental elements
  • Assessment of aggregate reactivity and research on the alkali resistance of concrete
  • Research on the properties of concrete with heavy, lightweight, and porous aggregates
  • Theoretical and experimental aspects of improving the durability of construction products
