VILNIUS TECH Antanas Gustaitis’ Aviation Institute (AGAI) students Lauryna Bukytė and Gustavas Jarašūnas were selected to participate in the ESA Academy Rocketry Training Programme, a European Space Agency training programme for students interested in rocketry and space technologies. They represented Lithuania alongside students selected from 24 different countries.
The programme consisted of two parts: a comprehensive online training course and practical workshops in the United Kingdom. During the online part, students completed more than 30 hours of lectures covering the history of rocketry, principles of physics, rocket propulsion, dynamics, trajectories, orbital mechanics, systems engineering, project management fundamentals, CAD, programming basics, numerical methods in rocketry, applications of artificial intelligence, and space law. The lectures were delivered by experts from the European Space Agency (ESA), the University of Glasgow, Exotopic, Astro42, Rocket Engineering Ltd., and Alden Legal.
Following the online course, the AGAI students were invited to participate in a five-day practical training programme at MACC Business Park in Scotland, where they gained hands-on experience in soldering, electronics fundamentals, rocket construction, and testing. The highlight of the workshops was participation in rocket launch operations at Machrihanish Airbase, where the teams assembled, prepared, and launched their own model rockets.
Throughout the training, the VILNIUS TECH students also worked in international teams, developed practical rocketry skills, gained insight into real-world practices in the space sector, and contributed to Lithuania’s representation in ESA’s academic initiatives.
