We invite you to visit the exhibition „Creators of Lithuanian Aviation“.
The year 2025 has been declared the year of the ANBO aircraft (an acronym for „Antanas Nori Būti Ore“, translating to „Antanas Wants to Be in the Air“) and the creators of Lithuanian aviation by the Lithuanian Parliament. It marks exactly 100 years since Antanas Gustaitis created the first Lithuanian aircraft, the ANBO-I, which brought fame to Lithuania across Europe. The ANBO-I aircraft has survived to this day and is preserved at the Vytautas the Great War Museum.
During the first period of Lithuania’s independence, from 1918 to 1940, the foundations of Lithuanian aviation were laid, and many notable figures who brought international recognition to Lithuania emerged. Among them were Jurgis Dobkevičius, Steponas Darius, Stasys Girėnas, and Feliksas Vaitkus. The exhibition also highlights Lithuania’s first female pilot and parachutist – Antanina Liorentaitė.
On display is a lecture notebook by Antanas Gustaitis, preserved at the VILNIUS TECH Library.
We also extend our gratitude to the Lithuanian Aviation museum, whose specialists have loaned unique exhibits for this exhibition – aviators’ flight logbooks. These include the logbook of the renowned glider pilot and pioneer of gliding in Lithuania, Bronius Oškinis, as well as the flight logbooks of aviation major and glider pilot Jonas Pyragis, Juozas Dambrava, and other notable aviators.
You can find the exhibition in the foyer on the second floor of the Central Library.
