In December of 2016 Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) lecturer of the Faculty of Business Management Department of Business Technology Giedrius Čyras gave lectures at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Germany.
Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (Hochschule Darmstadt, h_da) puts science into action. With a student body of approx. 15 000, it is one of the largest and most distinguished universities of applied sciences in Germany. Its excellent reputation is the result of a scientifically grounded, real-world approach to higher education and the professional success of its graduates. The 2006 “trendence” study, for example, ranked h_da graduates in the top five among German Universities of Applied Sciences. According to a survey conducted by the business magazine Wirtschaftswoche, h_da graduates have long been among the favorite picks of German companies.
The aim of the visit was teaching program quality improvement and new pedagogical practices of knowledge acquisition. Meetings were held with Professor Katrin Hoose, and lectures were given to the Energy Management students. The professors discussed about their subject and G. Cyras subject "Engineering Priciples“ in general aspects of program development and good practice options.
As another purpose lecturer named VGTU opportunity to take students from Germany under the Erasmus program. During the visit G. Cyras participated in – Darmstadt Erasmus Study Abroad Fair organized by the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Lecturer gave a presentation for future VGTU Erasmus students.
Additional goal was to search for potential partners, discussing possible areas of cooperation, joint publications options. All Erasmus week participants from 12 different universities were presented VGTU VVF conferences and journals. They discussed the possibility of cooperation, particularly with the Faculty of Business Management, as some universities already have existing contracts, but with other VGTU faculties. It is noted that one potential partner may be the United States. Meeting with PhD representative Janice Fengel allowed to discuss possible cooperation between the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University of Darmstadt in the field of PHd.
During the visit cooperative relations were established not only with the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, but also with the company Merck, several universities, such as: Glasgow Caledonian University | Scotland, UK; РУДН – Росcийский университет дружбы народов; Turku University of Applied Sciences; University of Warsaw; University of Eastern Finland; University of Wisconsin-Platteville; Technical University of Madrid; Polytechnic Institute of Leiria; Public University of Navarre; Technological Educational Institute of Western Macedonia.
Professor A. Erro told about their ongoing project INARBE, and left contact potential future cooperation. With all of them, Faculty of Business Management will try to develop cooperative relations.
Another objective was to find potential university partners. For this purpose, G. Cyras visited the company Merck, Hessen's largest industrial enterprise. Around 50,000 employees work to further develop technologies that improve and enhance life – from biopharmaceutical therapies to treat cancer or multiple sclerosis, cutting-edge systems for scientific research and production, to liquid crystals for smartphones and LCD televisions. During the visit, G. Cyras coordinated VGTU students outbound practices under the Erasmus opportunities.
