On 11 September, community of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) had an opportunity to learn more about Indonesia, watch performance of a national dance group Inda and taste Indonesian traditional food. The event was initiated by H.E. Mr. Muhammad Ibnu SAID, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia, who resides in Copenhagen.
During welcome speech to the guests, Rector of VGTU prof. dr. Alfonsas Daniūnas said that this social event is a great opportunity for the community of VGTU – students, researchers and administrative staff – to discover Indonesia as a wonderful and safe country, which is interesting not only for its rich cultural life and booming economy, but also as an important destination for academic exchange and joint research projects.
“This event also marks the celebration of a new cooperation agreement, which has been signed between VGTU and the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia in July. Under this agreement, students from Indonesia will be able to receive scholarships and come to VGTU for master studies. We are happy that several students from Indonesia are already studying at VGTU under Erasmus+ programme, and with this new agreement we are looking forward to welcoming even more students from Indonesia,” said Rector of VGTU.
VGTU started cooperation with institutions of higher education in Indonesia in 2013. Since then, both parties have found this cooperation very beneficial. The partnership is promoted on both sides, students from Indonesia have possibility to come for their exchange studies to VGTU, and VGTU students travel to Indonesian universities under bilateral partnership agreements.
VGTU community showed great interest in the event. Also there were about 40 guests from Indonesia – representatives of the Embassy and their families, national dance group, and chefs who offered Indonesian traditional food. It is worth noting that tomorrow, the 13th of September, Indonesia celebrates the 73rd Independence Day.
