International Open Access Week is held this year already for the 11th time worldwide on October 22-28, with the topic of “Designing equitable foundations for open knowledge”. This year’s theme reflects a scholarly system in transition. Governments, funders, universities, publishers, and scholars are more and more participating in Open Access movement, so the equitability of this process is very important, not forget about the main goal – to serve the needs of a global community. After opening the knowldege to society we face new challenges. Can we equitably ensure the reliability of open knowledge? What are inequities that open systems can recreate or reinforce How does what counts as scholarship perpetuate bias? What are areas where openness might not be appropriate? We invite you this week to get a look at and discuss on these issues and watch a documentary “Paywall: the Business of Scholarship“.
