New VILNIUS TECH Electronic Publication

Introducing the new VILNIUS TECH electronic publication, „Mechanizmų ir mašinų teorija. Praktinė laboratorinių darbų knyga“ (“Theory of Mechanisms and Machines: A Practical Laboratory Workbook”). The publication was prepared by Prof. Dr Vytautas Turla, Assoc. Prof. Dr Igor Iljin, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nikolaj Šešok, Assoc. Prof. Dr Rimantas Stonkus, and Dr Sigitas Petkevičius of the Department of Mechatronics, Robotics and Digital Manufacturing, Faculty of Mechanics.

This practical laboratory workbook is intended for first-cycle students studying Mechanical Engineering programmes at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH). It presents a series of laboratory assignments on the theory of mechanisms and machines. The publication covers the theoretical foundations, from basic concepts to the structure of mechanisms, as well as the analysis, evaluation, and assessment of their operation and suitability. The mechanisms and their structures are illustrated with technical drawings and diagrams, helping students better understand the theoretical material and the processes taking place within mechanisms.

The workbook is designed not only to deepen students’ theoretical knowledge but also to develop their practical skills. Students’ readiness to perform each laboratory assignment is assessed through tests available in the Moodle system. The publication may also be useful for students studying other mechanical engineering modules, as well as for design engineers and professionals involved in the development of new equipment.

Electronic book: >>>VILNIUS TECH institutional users can access and read electronic books free of charge when connected to the university’s computer network. When accessing the resources from outside the university, users can connect to the institutional network via VPN.

To read electronic books offline, users need to install the IPC Reader Offline application and, while connected to the institutional network, download the desired books to the reader. The downloaded books can then be accessed without an internet connection.

The “Discover VILNIUS TECH” challenge, held during the first week of September, helped students discover the VILNIUS TECH digital badge system – nearly 800 new participants joined, and 10 of them won prizes provided by VILNIUS TECH. During the challenge, students unlocked eight digital badge programmes and discovered more than 200 extracurricular activities offered by the University. But the challenge is only the beginning: students can continue earning digital badges throughout their studies and use their certificates to showcase their skills and prepare for their careers. “The meetings held during Integration Week confirmed that students are interested in preparing for their careers from their very first year – learning how to prepare a strong CV, feel more confident in job interviews, and use digital badges and their certificates to present their competencies to employers,” says Assoc. Prof. Dr Ingrida Leščauskienė, Head of the VILNIUS TECH Digital Badge System. This year, students are also being introduced to the new career preparation digital badge programme “DISCOVER. GRAVITY”, developed within the framework of international Erasmus+ project “YOUTH 360”. Students will be able to earn digital badges by participating in career seminars led by professionals, the GRAVITY Career Day, and other career preparation activities.
