On the 4-8th of May the Faculty of Transport Engineering hosted students from Latvia – the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TTI, Riga). During the visit, the guests participated in an event organized by the faculty entitled “Energy Sources for Transport Vehicles in Contemporary Transport Engineering”. The participants were introduced to the faculty’s activities, laboratory facilities, and took part in practical sessions dedicated to internal combustion engine research and transport engineering studies.
On the first day of the visit, the students were introduced to the Faculty of Transport Engineering and its study programmes. Later, the guests tested the e-racing simulator and visited the faculty laboratories, where they had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the modern infrastructure used for studies and scientific research.
A major part of the programme was devoted to practical laboratory works. The students from Latvia carried out valve timing investigations, analyzed the load characteristics of a diesel engine, examined the efficiency of a spark-ignition (Otto) engine, and studied exhaust emission parameters under different ignition timing angles and air–fuel mixture ratios.
During the visit, the guests also took part in an excursion to the university’s Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute, where they became acquainted with aviation-related studies and research activities.
At the end of the programme, the students presented the results of their laboratory work, and after successfully completing the programme, they were awarded certificates of participation. The visit concluded with an excursion to the Automobile Museum.
According to the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Olegas Prentkovskis, such international visits strengthen academic cooperation between higher education institutions, promote students’ intercultural experience, and provide opportunities to apply the knowledge acquired during their studies in practice.
