VILNIUS TECH Contributes to the Future Development of the ATHENA Alliance

January 28, 2025
VILNIUS TECH Vice-Rector for Studies, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Živilė Sederevičiūtė-Pačiauskienė, and ATHENA Institutional Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Asta Radzevičienė, participated in the prestigious ATHENA Alliance partners' meeting dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the University of Salento. Strategic issues related to the alliance's expansion were also discussed in Lecce, Italy.

ATHENA Board Meeting: Strategic Goals and Action Plan

During the ATHENA Board Meeting, the strategic action plan for 2025 was discussed. The meeting covered discussions on the results of the ATHENA coordinators' meeting with representatives of the European Commission’s DG Education (EAC Higher Education), the alliance’s representation at upcoming international events, cooperation with other European university alliances (in the ForEU2 format), the upcoming European university alliances meeting in Maribor, partner invitations and the development of joint study programs, as well as strengthening scientific collaboration within the ATHENA network.

During the meeting, the alliance’s key performance indicators (KPIs) for 2025 were also approved, guidelines for further alliance growth and expansion were established, and agreements were made regarding upcoming new visits and collaborations.

“At the meeting with ATHENA alliance strategic partners, we were pleased that study activities and research among strategic partners are gaining momentum. Considering that sustainable partnerships in higher education develop slowly, such collaboration among alliance members is truly encouraging – together, we are creating double-degree programs that will provide greater opportunities for students. It was also decided at the meeting to strengthen researcher partnerships, promote joint scientific publications, and encourage both short-term and long-term visits,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ž. Sederevičiūtė-Pačiauskienė.

The President of Italy, H.E. Sergio Mattarella, congratulated the University of Salento on its anniversary. He emphasized the university’s importance in regional development and international cooperation. This prestigious event provided ATHENA partners with a unique opportunity to strengthen ties with the University of Salento’s partner network, the Italian Conference of University Rectors (CRUI), business leaders, and international partners. Furthermore, the meetings served as an excellent platform for future collaboration and the development of new opportunities within the ATHENA ecosystem.

VILNIUS TECH Library invites you to follow the published new dissertations. The dissertation „Multi-Criteria Model for Selecting Construction Contractual Terms and Pricing Methods“ („Statybos rangos sutarčių sąlygų ir kainodaros parinkimo daugiakriteris modelis“) prepared at VILNIUS TECH by Arvydas Vilkonis. The dissertation was prepared in 2021–2026. Scientific consultant – Prof. Dr Jurgita Antuchevičienė. The dissertation was defended at the public meeting of the Dissertation Defence Council of the Scientific Field of Civil Engineering in the Aula Doctoralis Meeting Hall of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University at 2 p.m. on 12 May 2026. The dissertation examines the selection of the terms and conditions for construction contracts, contract types, and pricing combinations. The study focuses on the management of construction contracts and pricing. The dissertation’s main objective is to create a multi-criteria evaluation model for selecting construction contract terms and conditions and pricing using combined decision-making methods. The dissertation consists of an introduction, three chapters, general conclusions, lists of references and the author’s publications on the topic of the dissertation. The Introduction discusses the research problem, the relevance of the work, describes the object of the study, formulates the aim and objectives of the work, describes the research methodology, the scientific novelty of the work, the practical significance of the results of the work, and the defendable statements. At the end of the Introduction, the author presents publications and conference presentations related to the topic of the dissertation and describes its structure. The First Chapter provides an analytical overview of the latest research, aims to define the state legal regulation of the model of construction contracts and pricing, and identifies the main stakeholders in selecting the model of construction contracts and pricing for construction works. The chapter concludes with the conclusions and refined objectives of the dissertation. The Second Chapter presents summarised data on the selection of construction contract terms and conditions, the risks associated with their implementation in construction projects, and their impact on construction works. A theoretical model is proposed for selecting general and special terms and conditions of construction contracts using combined multi-criteria decision-making methods. Mathematical algorithms are also presented to price construction contracts, select contract types and recalculate construction contract prices according to the construction cost price index. The Third Chapter presents the application of the proposed model in selecting the terms and conditions of construction contracts, as well as the application of mathematical algorithms for selecting the type of automated construction contract and pricing combination and recalculating the price of construction contracts according to the construction cost index in a real project case. Seven scientific articles have been published on the topic of the dissertation: two in Web of Science-indexed journals, three in other indexed research journals, two in international peer-reviewed conference proceedings. Four presentations on the dissertation topic were delivered at Lithuanian and international conferences, and the work’s results were presented at a seminar at Bialystok University of Technology.
