The community of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) is waiting for students returning to the university and invites them to celebrate the New Year. All residents and guests of the capital are invited to the celebrations of the New Academic Year, who, like welcoming the New Year as well as this New  Academic   Year, is waiting for a free celebration concert and a performance of drones which will replace  the fireworks.

"The real New Year has a serious competitor – September 1, because from this day after the summer holidays and relaxation we return to study, work, all the other activities and the rhythm. It is a special opportunity for our university community to get back together after a long time not seen. We want to share this special day with everyone and celebrate the New  Academic   Year together, ”says Ilma Cikanaitė, Public Communication Office Director of VILNIUS TECH.

At the epicenter of the New Year celebration – the performance of the group "Beissoul & Einius":

The celebration will begin on September 1st.

10 AM at VILNIUS TECH central building (Saulėtekio al. 11), where the official opening ceremony of the new  Academic  year will take place.

8 PM  celebration concert with performers of VILNIUS TECH students: Akvilė Urbonavičiūtė, Gabija Lukrecija Petrauskaitė, Gabija Aleknavičiūtė, Gavrel.

Each of these performers is already making their way into the Lithuanian music industry and has their own circle of fans. It is especially an honor that they are also VILNIUS TECH students. After their performances – the most awaited eccentric Beissoul & Einius duet concert. These performers always surprise the audience with their unique style, music and fantasy, so we expect a unique performance at the New Year's Evening concert!

Fireworks will be replaced by drones.

"We are a university of technology, so we try to creatively integrate technology into the entertainment activities of the university. We also follow the principles of sustainability in our studies and activities, therefore this time instead of festive fireworks, which are common at New Year's Eve, but are also harmful to the environment, we have chosen an alternative – a drone light show ", – says Ilma Cikanaitė about the special festive effects of the event.

"Participants of the event will be able to see a unique flashmob of 100 synchronized illuminated drones. To create this unique spectacle, to synchronize and at the same time control a hundred drones – will be used complex programs which require special skills and specific knowledge ”- presents „Light a Sky“ Technology Director and Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute Associate Professor dr. Linas Gelažanskas.

WHAT'S NEXT?

September 2nd, at 6 PM, will continue the New Year celebration and an informal introduction to Saulėtekio students campus. VILNIUS TECH CAMPUS MEET & GREET will take place in the courtyard of VILNIUS TECH. There will be a variety of games, a lounge area, prizes to win prizes, a good mood and music by DJs. The theme of the evening is neon colors.

September 15-16 The Faculty of Creative Industries at VILNIUS TECH will organize days of Creative Industries. In these days of the Faculty of Creative Industries, everyone is welcome who is interested in various fields and topics of creative industries. This is an event that has already become a tradition. The last event, which took place before the first quarantine, was attended by almost half a thousand people.

On the first day there will be a concert and a BBQ with "Meet for Meat". On the second day, lecturers will give lectures, there will be a leisure area and also there will  be an organized closing evening.

More information about the events can be found in the news in VILNIUS TECH and VILNIUS TECH KIF social network accounts.

New doctoral dissertation
VILNIUS TECH Library invites you to follow the published new dissertations. The dissertation „Performance investigation of a hybrid car engine fuelled with gasoline and gaseous mixtures“ („Benziną ir dujų mišinius naudojančio hibridinio automobilio variklio efektyvumo tyrimas“) prepared at VILNIUS TECH by Tadas Vipartas. The dissertation was prepared in 2021–2026. Scientific consultant – Prof. Dr Alfredas Rimkus. The dissertation was defended at the public meeting of the Dissertation Defence Council of the Scientific Field of Transport Engineering in the Aula Doctoralis Meeting Hall of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University at 9 a.m. on 12 June 2026. This dissertation investigates the use of alternative fuels (natural gas and hydrogen) to increase the efficiency of a spark-ignition engine. The impact of different fuels and engine control algorithms on the combustion process and on energy and ecological indicators was determined and evaluated by analysing the emerging technological constraints within the context of a power-split (series-parallel) hybrid powertrain. The dissertation presents a review of scientific literature, analysing the directions for internal combustion engine improvement, the properties of gaseous fuels and the challenges of their application, along with the operating principles of automotive hybrid powertrains. Bench tests were conducted to investigate the effect of late intake valve closing timing on an engine operating on natural gas, and the influence of hydrogen additives on the combustion process and knock control. The numerical analysis of the engine’s combustion process was performed using AVL BOOST™ software, while the energy and ecological indicators of the hybrid vehicle were evaluated through experimental research and numerical simulation in the AVL CRUISE™ software. The following main results were obtained in the dissertation: retarding the intake valve closing timing increased the brake thermal efficiency and NOx emissions while reducing carbon dioxide emissions when the engine operates on natural gas. It was determined that a hydrogen additive in the fuel improves the engine’s energy indicators, but increases nitrogen oxides emissions and the risk of engine knock. Engine knock is effectively managed by retarding the ignition advance angle. Numerical simulation results confirmed that these trends persist during the Worldwide Harmonized Light-duty Vehicles Test Cycle: the use of hydrogen reduces fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, but increases nitrogen oxides emissions. The dissertation results revealed the potential of these technologies and strategies for their application. The obtained data can be applied in the development and selection of advanced engine control algorithms and in the formulation of technologically sound environmental standards. Nine scientific articles have been published on the topic of the dissertation: six in scientific journals indexed in the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science database with an impact factor, one in a scientific journal indexed in the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science database without an impact factor, one in conference proceedings indexed in the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science Conference Proceedings Citation Index, and one in peer-reviewed conference proceedings not indexed in international databases. The research results were presented at three scientific conferences in Lithuania and Poland. Doctoral dissertation readers can search via VILNIUS TECH Virtual Library.
