VILNIUS TECH Contributes to shaping Europe’s future space workforce at SpaceVantage workshop

June 16, 2026

The European space sector is rapidly evolving, driven by digital, green, and deep-tech advancements. To ensure that education and training keep pace with these changes, VILNIUS TECH, as a project partner, recently participated in the first SpaceVantage Industry Validation Workshop.

Held on June 3, the workshop brought together professionals and experts from across the European space ecosystem. The primary focus was to gather valuable feedback on the SpaceVantage Predictive Skills Intelligence Methodology, a framework designed to anticipate emerging skills gaps and align future higher education curricula with real-world industry demands.

During the workshop, the Occupational Profiles and Competency Frameworks developed within the SpaceVantage project were also presented. The discussion focused on how well these profiles reflect the current and future needs of the European space labour market, with experts from across the sector sharing valuable insights and feedback to help refine them.

The Occupational Profiles are publicly available here.

Participants also explored future competency requirements in cutting-edge areas, including AI-enabled satellite data analysis, quantum technologies, and green space operations.

As a key partner in the SpaceVantage initiative, VILNIUS TECH actively contributed to these discussions. The insights gathered during the workshop will help strengthen industry-driven mechanisms and ensure that future higher education programmes equip the next generation of professionals with the skills needed for Europe’s evolving space sector.

Each year on 14 October, we celebrate World Standards Day, highlighting the importance of standards in our daily lives and professional activities. Standardization is the process of establishing and applying rules, requirements, and specifications. Standardization may concern products, methods, processes, or technical requirements that are consistently used in science, technology, agriculture, and industry. Compliance with standards ensures the quality, safety, and reliability of products and services. The application of standards-based technologies in industry, energy, healthcare, and many other sectors contributes to social progress, more efficient service delivery, and the growth of a competitive economy. Since 2015, VILNIUS TECH has engaged in active collaboration with the Lithuanian Standards Department to enhance research and study processes. This partnership focuses on integrating the latest engineering and technological innovations, as well as the expertise of social partners. Such collaboration has facilitated the implementation of innovative educational practices, distance learning initiatives, and professional development systems. In accordance with existing agreements, VILNIUS TECH researchers and students have access to the texts of LST standards through the university library's electronic catalog. Currently, VILNIUS TECH researchers and students can access over 62,000 full-text LST and ISO standards via the Virtual Library. To search for standards, users should select the resource titled Lithuanian Standards Department (LST) Standards in the search window.
