Institutional repository – is an information system designed to host and archive electronic objects aiming to collect, preserve and disseminate an institutional (in this case – VILNIUS TECH) production. This way of utilizing repositories is also called self-archiving.
Repositories can host both published and unpublished documents (e.g. accepted manuscripts, prepared but unpublished articles, conference presentations and posters, reviews, etc.), and also – non-public documents, as well as other objects (including non-textual ones, acceptable in a wide range of formats).
Regarding published scientific production, publications (and other objects) published via Gold and/or Green Open Access models are usually being deposited into institutional repositories. Therefore, institutional repositories become essential tools in implementing the main Open Science goals. Accordingly, the majority of benefits provided by the institutional repositories are related with the fulfillment of the Open Access guidelines and requirements.
It should be noted, that not only scientific, but all other type of University’s production can be deposited in the repository. Therefore, repository become beneficial for the University in other aspects, firstly, by creating scientific and also historical University’s heritage for future generations.
Repositories based on DSpace system are structured hierarchically:

Differently from the old repository version, the renewed repository is composed of Communities and Collections based on the nature and type of hosted objects:
In the renewed repository are implemented additional capabilities for filtering the content by:
- I and II level University’s departments, represented by VILNIUS TECH authors (according to the University’s structure applied in the eLABa system)
- Publication type (according to eLABa publications type classification, with codes)
- Science (Art) field (according to the official Lithuanian classification, with codes)
- Study direction (according to the official Lithuanian classification, with codes)
- VILNIUS TECH institutional classifiers: VILNIUS TECH research priorities and topics and Lithuanian intelligent specializations (according to the official Lithuanian classification, with codes)
- Publisher (applicable only for published objects)
- Source title (applicable only for published objects)
Aiming to make the scientific content in the repository to be exploitable for evaluation purposes, all published scientific University’s production is being hosted in the single All University’s scientific publications (PDB) community. Regardless, the content of this (and all other) communities and collections can be conveniently filtered or browsed by applying various aforementioned filtering facets.
Please, note: due to the completely reorganized structure of the renewed repository, currently only two communities are filled with eLABa entries (part of them have attached full-text PDF files).
Object search in the repository can be performed anonymously, but certain additional functions (as well as certain objects, according to their access settings) are available only to registered (logged-in) users. For example, registered users can set collection alerts informing the user by e-mail when a new item has been uploaded into a particular collection.
Users can register/login into the repository in two ways: by creating an e-mail based account, or with their institutional login data via LDAP authentication. We ask VILNIUS TECH community members to use LDAP authentication for login.
Meanwhile, only registered/logged-in VILNIUS TECH users owning the respective rights, which can be assigned to the user only after the initial login, can submit objects to the repository. Therefore, if you wish to receive object deposition rights, please, login to the repository with your institutional credentials and inform Scientific Information Department:
- by phone: (8 5) 274 4903 (internal 9903),
- by e-mail: publikacijos@vilniustech.lt or raminta.pranckute@vilniustech.lt
The repository is also accessible from the Library’s webpage section E-resources:
Please, note: the renewed repository is still at the active development stage. Therefore, we would appreciate your patience and understanding in case of any technical issues.
