VILNIUS TECH employees invited to the tenth autumn run and walk

October 6, 2026

VILNIUS TECH employees are invited to the traditional autumn run-walk, co-organized by the university and the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC). This year’s event is special as it marks the tenth edition, so we invite you not only to spend an active afternoon but also to celebrate this wonderful milestone together.

Participants will enjoy the scenic and well-loved route in the Kairėnai Botanical Garden. You can choose a distance of 3, 6, or 9 km; the majority of the route is paved.

If running isn’t your cup of tea, we invite you to choose the 3 km walking route! It is also perfect for Nordic walking (if you don’t have poles but would like to try them, the Sports and Art Center (SMC) will have a dozen pairs available on-site; just make sure to indicate during registration that you would like to reserve a pair).

After an active afternoon, all participants will be treated to hot Lithuanian buckwheat porridge (with or without bacon bits) and tea.

The tenth event is a great opportunity to get together and celebrate! To make the anniversary mood even more festive, we encourage you to come wearing birthday accessories or items featuring the number ten: a sticker, earrings, a hat, balloons, etc. Delicious and healthy prizes await those who dress up!

  • Date and Time: October 16 (Friday), starting at 12:00 PM (changing rooms, bib distribution, and an optional Nordic walking training session open from 11:00 AM).

  • Location: VU Botanical Garden (Kairėnų St. 43, Vilnius).

  • Distances: 3, 6, and 9 km.

  • Route map: Available here: https://www.maps.lt/short/3d958fbf

  • Registration: Open until October 12. You can register here.

To make the event as sustainable as possible, we will be using reusable participant bibs. Therefore, please return them to the organizers after the event.

IMPORTANT!

Personal responsibility is an essential part of the event.

Each participant assumes responsibility for any incidents that may occur during the run/walk, including collisions with other participants, falls, etc., as well as any resulting injuries and/or health issues. When choosing footwear, please consider the weather conditions, as the route may be slippery; shoes with deeper tread or spikes (especially if icy) are recommended.

By signing the registration sheet, each participant confirms that they:
– Are aware of and agree to these terms;
– Are sufficiently trained and healthy, and have no medical contraindications prohibiting them from completing their chosen distance in this run/walk;
– Waive any claims against their employer regarding injuries that may arise from participating in this run/walk.

Let’s get together, get moving, and celebrate the tenth autumn run!

This event takes place three times a year: in autumn, winter, and spring.

Event partners: Vilnius University Health and Sport Centre and the Sports Division of the VILNIUS TECH Sports and Art Center.

World Standards Day: Standards Driving Quality and Progress
Each year on 14 October, we celebrate World Standards Day, highlighting the importance of standards in our daily lives and professional activities. Standardization is the process of establishing and applying rules, requirements, and specifications. Standardization may concern products, methods, processes, or technical requirements that are consistently used in science, technology, agriculture, and industry. Compliance with standards ensures the quality, safety, and reliability of products and services. The application of standards-based technologies in industry, energy, healthcare, and many other sectors contributes to social progress, more efficient service delivery, and the growth of a competitive economy. Since 2015, VILNIUS TECH has engaged in active collaboration with the Lithuanian Standards Department to enhance research and study processes. This partnership focuses on integrating the latest engineering and technological innovations, as well as the expertise of social partners. Such collaboration has facilitated the implementation of innovative educational practices, distance learning initiatives, and professional development systems. In accordance with existing agreements, VILNIUS TECH researchers and students have access to the texts of LST standards through the university library's electronic catalog. Currently, VILNIUS TECH researchers and students can access over 62,000 full-text LST and ISO standards via the Virtual Library. To search for standards, users should select the resource titled Lithuanian Standards Department (LST) Standards in the search window. To access the full-text documents, users are required to enter their institutional ID and password. Prof. Dr. Romualdas Kliukas elected as rector of VILNIUS TECH
Prof. Dr. Romualdas Kliukas has been re-elected for a second term as the Rector of VILNIUS TECH. Over the past five years, VILNIUS TECH has significantly strengthened its position in the fields of research, studies, and management. This was driven by substantial state support for research institutions, alongside the potential and unity of the university community. Having led the university since November 2021, Prof. Kliukas thanked the community for its trust and encouraged everyone to continue fostering ideas, initiatives, critical thinking, and innovation. "As the world and the country change, the university's goals are becoming increasingly ambitious. We will strive to become a prestigious European technical university that takes responsibility for creating new solutions to overcome pressing global challenges. Every tangible change implemented in studies, research, or management will stem from our collaboration and connectivity. It is essential that everyone feels seen, valued, and empowered to participate, build connections, share their knowledge, and contribute to the future of the university," said Prof. Dr. Kliukas. The re-elected Rector’s priorities include focusing on international-level study quality, training specialists who create high added value, expanding the competence centers established between 2024 and 2026, and maturing international partnerships, talent development initiatives, and research information systems. Through these efforts, the university aims to achieve greater international competitiveness, increase the impact of research results, and foster closer interaction between research, business, and the public sector. The key focus remains on an effective research and study management system, strengthening the community, and ensuring state-of-the-art research and study infrastructure. Prof. Dr. Artūras Jukna was the other candidate running for the position of VILNIUS TECH Rector in this election. The Rector was elected through an open competition by the Council of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, headed by Chairman Dainius Dundulis. According to the university's statute, the Rector is elected for a five-year term; therefore, the results of this election will shape the university's strategic directions, priorities, and decisions until 2031.
