A Turkish delegation representing various private schools visited VILNIUS TECH. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen an already successfully developing partnership and to gain a closer insight into the university, which is increasingly being chosen by prospective students from Turkey.
The delegation consisted of 32 representatives: school principals, network representatives, and other education professionals from the cities of Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir, as well as the Minister of Education for the Istanbul region.
During the return visit, VILNIUS TECH vice-rectors presented the university, its strategic directions, and study programs to the Turkish delegation. The guests also visited the Faculties of Mechanics, Electronics, and Transport Engineering, as well as the modern Laboratory Building, where they were introduced to the scientific research and activities carried out at VILNIUS TECH. In an informal setting, the guests met with current Turkish students, who were eager to share their experiences.
The Turkish delegation’s visit followed several years of VILNIUS TECH initiatives in Turkey: for the past three years, university representatives have been actively visiting schools in the country and, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Turkey, organizing presentations and specialized events to inform students about study opportunities in Lithuania.
“These efforts are producing clear results. Currently, 102 students from Turkey are studying at VILNIUS TECH, and this year we plan to admit about 90 more. The Turkish student community is becoming one of the largest at the university – the fifth biggest by size,” says Dovilė Jodenytė, Director of the International Studies Center.
Most of these students come from private schools with a high academic standard, where instruction is in English and follows the International Baccalaureate or other international programs. This ensures that the students arriving at VILNIUS TECH are highly prepared and motivated.
It is expected that this visit will further encourage cooperation and that more talented students from Turkey will join the ranks of VILNIUS TECH each year, strengthening the university’s community and international outlook.
