History of the Faculty
The Faculty of Urban Construction was established as a faculty of the Vilnius branch of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute and is considered the predecessor of the current Faculty of Environmental Engineering.
Following the reorganisation of the branch into the Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute (VISI), the Faculty kept its name until 1 September 1990 and trained specialists in applied geodesy, urban construction, and road engineering.
Following the transfer of the “Heating, Gas Supply and Ventilation” and “Water Management” specialisations from Kaunas to VISI, the Faculty of Municipal Engineering was established and operated until 1990.
After the merger of the Faculty of Urban Construction and the Faculty of Municipal Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering Communications was established and operated under this name until 1992.
The Faculty adopted the name Faculty of Urban Engineering, which remained in use until 1995.
The Faculty became known by its current name, the Faculty of Environmental Engineering (AIF).
The Departments of Roads and Geodesy and Cadastre marked their 100-year anniversaries.
The Faculty launched new study programmes in Sustainability Technologies (undergraduate) and Sustainability Management (graduate).
