Night To Unite
“Night To Unite”, organised by the FMF Student Representation, has been taking place for more than a decade and draws thousands of participants each year.

History of the Faculty
1993
The Faculty of Fundamental Sciences was created by uniting the University’s exact sciences departments responsible for teaching general subjects throughout the University. The idea was strongly promoted by the then Rector, Prof. Habil. Dr E. K. Zavadskas, and considerable effort was made by the first Dean, Assoc Prof. Dr A. Čiučelis.
In its founding year, the Faculty began offering its first degree programmes – Engineering Informatics at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels.
1994
The Bioengineering Bachelor’s programme in the field of Biotechnology was introduced. The programme remains active and successful, and its graduates have the opportunity to continue their studies in two Master’s degree programmes.
2000
The Laboratory of Parallel Computing was established.
2004
The University admitted its first students to the Technomathematics study programme in the field of Mathematics.
2006
The Information Technology Security Laboratory was established.
2009
Prof. Habil. Dr Antanas Čenys is appointed Dean of the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences.
2011
The Faculty of Fundamental Sciences is led by the Dean, Prof. Habil. Dr Rimantas Belevičius. In the same year, the Faculty introduced three new Bachelor’s programmes: Multimedia and Computer Design; Business Information Systems (informatics field of study); and Applied Statistics and Econometrics (statistics field).
In addition, three new Master’s programmes were launched: Nanobiotechnology (biotechnology field); Engineering of Solar Cells and Modules (materials technology field); and Information and Information Technology Security (informatics engineering field).
2011
The FMF Student Representation launches the annual event “Night to Unite”.
2014
The Institute of Applied Mathematics was established.
2014
The Faculty launched a new Software Engineering programme, which was chosen by 63 students in its first year.
Today, Multimedia and Computer Design and Software Engineering are the largest programmes in the Faculty, with over 100 new students enrolling in each programme annually.
2016
The first student in Informatics undertakes an internship at NASA.
2016
A student of Bioengineering wins a gold medal with the Lithuanian team at the international “i-GEM” competition.
2018
The FMF student team qualifies for the semi-finals of the World Programming Championship.
2021
The Faculty of Fundamental Sciences is led by the Dean, Prof. Dr Dalius Mažeika.
