Trial of SAGE Research Methods – a resource platform for scientific research

September 25, 2026

Until October 23, 2026, the VILNIUS TECH community has a trial of SAGE Research Methods – a resource platform for students, doctoral students, lecturers and researchers looking for reliable and practically applicable information on scientific research methods.

SAGE Research Methods helps at various stages of research – from formulating a research question and choosing a research design to collecting, analyzing and presenting data. The platform provides material from various disciplines, covering qualitative, quantitative and mixed research methods, statistical analysis, data visualization, digital research methods, research ethics, etc.

What will you find on the platform?

Books and reference publications: reference books, encyclopedias and other publications on research methodology. Comprehensive method guides and publications from the Little Green Books and Little Blue Books series on quantitative and qualitative research methods can be especially useful.

Interactive tools

Methods Map – a map of research methods that helps to discover interrelated research methods. This can be especially useful when a researcher is still deciding which method to use in their study.

Project Planner – a help in planning a study, where step-by-step guidelines help to navigate the different stages of scientific research – from the research question and research design to data collection, analysis and presentation of results.

Which Stats Test helps to choose the right statistical analysis method.

Datasets for practice – Datasets allows you not only to read about research methods, but also to learn how to analyze data in practice. It provides downloadable qualitative and quantitative datasets and guidelines for their analysis.

Video material

The platform’s video collections include expert-led trainings, interviews, practical demonstrations and short documentary videos. Topics include research design, qualitative and quantitative and mixed methods, survey research, data science, big data and digital research, research ethics and more.

Real research examples

SAGE Research Methods Cases provides analyses of real research cases, in which researchers describe the methods they chose, the challenges they faced, and how they solved them. Such examples can help to better understand how theoretical methodological knowledge is applied in real research.

Modern and digital research methods

The platform pays much attention to modern research methods: online research, online surveys, API data collection, big data, digital methods and text analysis. For example, the platform provides material on the use of large language models for text analysis.

How can this be useful for the VILNIUS TECH community?

For students – assistance in preparing term papers, final papers and other scientific papers: you can clarify the principles of research methods, find practical examples and test work with data.

For doctoral students and researchers – useful in planning research methodology, searching for a suitable research method, deepening knowledge of statistical or qualitative analysis and searching for real examples of the application of methods.

For teachers – the methodological materials, case studies, videos and datasets available on the platform can be used in the study process, for practical assignments and for independent learning of students. The platform also allows you to create and share thematic reading collections.

Access is available from VILNIUS TECH computer network or via VPN. As a security measure, two-factor authentication is additionally required (i.e. verification from mobile device app or by call).

World Standards Day: Standards Driving Quality and Progress
World Standards Day: Standards Driving Quality and Progress
Each year on 14 October, we celebrate World Standards Day, highlighting the importance of standards in our daily lives and professional activities. Standardization is the process of establishing and applying rules, requirements, and specifications. Standardization may concern products, methods, processes, or technical requirements that are consistently used in science, technology, agriculture, and industry. Compliance with standards ensures the quality, safety, and reliability of products and services. The application of standards-based technologies in industry, energy, healthcare, and many other sectors contributes to social progress, more efficient service delivery, and the growth of a competitive economy. Since 2015, VILNIUS TECH has engaged in active collaboration with the Lithuanian Standards Department to enhance research and study processes. This partnership focuses on integrating the latest engineering and technological innovations, as well as the expertise of social partners. Such collaboration has facilitated the implementation of innovative educational practices, distance learning initiatives, and professional development systems. In accordance with existing agreements, VILNIUS TECH researchers and students have access to the texts of LST standards through the university library's electronic catalog. Currently, VILNIUS TECH researchers and students can access over 62,000 full-text LST and ISO standards via the Virtual Library. To search for standards, users should select the resource titled Lithuanian Standards Department (LST) Standards in the search window. To access the full-text documents, users are required to enter their institutional ID and password. VILNIUS TECH employees invited to the tenth autumn run and walk
VILNIUS TECH employees are invited to the traditional autumn run-walk, co-organized by the university and the Center for Physical Sciences and Technology (FTMC). This year’s event is special as it marks the tenth edition, so we invite you not only to spend an active afternoon but also to celebrate this wonderful milestone together. Participants will enjoy the scenic and well-loved route in the Kairėnai Botanical Garden. You can choose a distance of 3, 6, or 9 km; the majority of the route is paved. If running isn't your cup of tea, we invite you to choose the 3 km walking route! It is also perfect for Nordic walking (if you don’t have poles but would like to try them, the Sports and Art Center (SMC) will have a dozen pairs available on-site; just make sure to indicate during registration that you would like to reserve a pair). After an active afternoon, all participants will be treated to hot Lithuanian buckwheat porridge (with or without bacon bits) and tea. The tenth event is a great opportunity to get together and celebrate! To make the anniversary mood even more festive, we encourage you to come wearing birthday accessories or items featuring the number ten: a sticker, earrings, a hat, balloons, etc. Delicious and healthy prizes await those who dress up! Date and Time: October 16 (Friday), starting at 12:00 PM (changing rooms, bib distribution, and an optional Nordic walking training session open from 11:00 AM). Location: VU Botanical Garden (Kairėnų St. 43, Vilnius). Distances: 3, 6, and 9 km. Route map: Available here: https://www.maps.lt/short/3d958fbf Registration: Open until October 12. You can register here. To make the event as sustainable as possible, we will be using reusable participant bibs. Therefore, please return them to the organizers after the event. IMPORTANT! Personal responsibility is an essential part of the event. Each participant assumes responsibility for any incidents that may occur during the run/walk, including collisions with other participants, falls, etc., as well as any resulting injuries and/or health issues. When choosing footwear, please consider the weather conditions, as the route may be slippery; shoes with deeper tread or spikes (especially if icy) are recommended. By signing the registration sheet, each participant confirms that they:– Are aware of and agree to these terms;– Are sufficiently trained and healthy, and have no medical contraindications prohibiting them from completing their chosen distance in this run/walk;– Waive any claims against their employer regarding injuries that may arise from participating in this run/walk. Let’s get together, get moving, and celebrate the tenth autumn run! This event takes place three times a year: in autumn, winter, and spring. Event partners: Vilnius University Health and Sport Centre and the Sports Division of the VILNIUS TECH Sports and Art Center.
