Dean's Message
History of the Faculty
The beginnings of the Faculty of Mechanics date back to the establishment of the Vilnius Branch of the Evening Faculty of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI). The Faculty’s first Dean was Assoc. Prof. Dr Jaronimas Kudaba.
The first three departments at the Vilnius Branch of Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) were Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Applied Mechanics.
The Faculty was renamed the Faculty of Mechanics of Vilnius Technical University.
The first Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees were awarded to graduates of the Faculty.
Until that year, the Faculty had been the largest at the then Technical University.
The position of Dean was held by Prof Habil Dr Algirdas Vaclovas Valiulis, Member of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
The HTEC Training Centre was opened, and the Institute of Mechanical Science was established.
The Department of Mechatronics and Robotics was established.
The first joint study programme with Braunschweig University of Technology was established.
The Centre for Technical Creativity and Innovation (TKIC) was established.
Assoc Prof Dr Justinas Gargasas was appointed Dean.
Ina Tetsman became the first woman appointed as Head of Department.
The Faculty relocated to its new METIF building at 25 Plytinės Street.
