General information:
- Rehearsals take place every Tuesday and Friday at 6:30 PM.
- Rehearsals are held at Plytinės St. 27, Vilnius, 4th floor, Room 402.
- We especially welcome those who play wind and percussion instruments.
- Having your own instrument is not necessary – feel free to ask, we might have one for you!
About
The VILNIUS TECH orchestra participates in nearly all events organized by the university’s student representation and community. It is also an active participant in competitions and frequently a prize winner. The orchestra performs across the country as well, having taken part in Song Festivals, the 16th Baltic States Student Song and Dance Festival “Gaudeamus” in Daugavpils, and the Song Festival “Here Is My Home.” Since its reestablishment, it has participated annually in the Lithuanian Brass Orchestra Championship. In 2014, for its high artistic level, activities, and achievements, the orchestra was awarded the highest honor for amateur art groups – the “Golden Bird.”
History
Vladimir Školnyj became the Artistic Director and conductor of the orchestra.
Today, the VILNIUS TECH wind orchestra is the youngest artistic group at the university, actively participating in academic and cultural life. It is open to student instrumentalists and continuously expanding its musical activities.
Grand Prix in Category C at the Lithuanian Brass Orchestra Championship, along with an award for the best performance of the compulsory piece.
An international student wind orchestra festival “Pašėlę dūdų garsai” was organized in Vilnius.
Conductor Rolandas Lukošius was recognized as the best conductor in his category in 2013–2015.
Since the orchestra’s reestablishment, the ensemble has participated annually in the Lithuanian Brass Orchestra Championship, actively performs at university community events, and goes on concert tours in Lithuania and abroad (Poland, Estonia).
Grand Prix in Category B at the Lithuanian Brass Orchestra Championship, granting the right to compete in a higher category; the orchestra was also awarded the highest honor for amateur art groups – the “Golden Bird.”
In the same year, the orchestra participated in the Lithuanian Song Festival “Here Is My Home” and the 16th Baltic States Student Song and Dance Festival “Gaudeamus” in Daugavpils.
The September 1st concert with the wind orchestra has become an annual tradition marking the beginning of the academic year at the university.
The festivals “Skambančios Kalėdų dūdos” have been organized in Vilnius.
Concerts “Skambios pavasario dūdos” were held in Vilnius, Elektrėnai, Širvintos, and Šiauliai; for the second consecutive year, the orchestra won 3rd place in Category B at the Lithuanian Brass Orchestra Championship.
The orchestra participated in the festival “Dūdų vasara – 9” in Panevėžys and in the Lithuanian Brass Orchestra Championship, where it won 3rd place in Category B.
The first solo concert “Skambančios Kalėdų dūdos” was held at the Mechanics Palace.
The wind orchestra of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University was officially reestablished; Rolandas Lukošius was invited to lead it.
At the initiative of student Tadas Lenkutis, a small group of students playing wind instruments was formed, performing at internal university events.
The orchestra was led by Justinas Jonušas. After 1991, wind orchestra music was not heard at the university for nearly two decades.
A wind orchestra was founded at the Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute (now VILNIUS TECH) on the initiative of Algirdas Radzevičius.
