About Sport
General Information
- Students who train professionally represent VILNIUS TECH in University sports teams.
- Second- to fourth-year students can choose two physical education modules and attend classes based on their selected sports programme.
- Students who prefer to train individually can rent sports facilities, purchase memberships, or attend sports activities in their free time.
- Students who have not selected elective modules can join sports programme activities free of charge by registering in advance.
- University staff and alumni can use the VILNIUS TECH gym free of charge.
- Senior students of the VGTU Engineering Lyceum are invited to take part in sports competitions and events organised by the University.
Top Athletes
Danutė Šalkauskaitė (Faculty of Mechanics) – Best Student Athlete of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
Achievements: 1st place in the World Kettlebell Championship; 1st place in the World U23 Kettlebell Championship.
Coach: Rūta Sindikevičienė.
Paulius Kochanskas (Faculty of Mechanics) was recognised as the best indoor volleyball player in the National Student Volleyball League.
Coach: Radoslav Adamovič.
Denis Matichin (Lithuanian Maritime Academy) was recognised as the best futsal player in the Lithuanian Student Football League.
Coach: Giedrius Barevičius.
The Best VILNIUS TECH Athlete of the year is Danutė Šalkauskaitė, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Mechanics.
Coach: Rūta Sindikevičienė.
She won 1st place at the 2024 European Kettlebell Championship in Paris (up to 73 kg) and 1st place at the 2024 World U23 Kettlebell Championship in Greece (up to 73 kg).
Tautvydas Pranys (Faculty of Civil Engineering, third year) was named the best indoor volleyball player in the National Student Volleyball League.

Lukas Prokopavičius, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences, has been named VILNIUS TECH Athlete of the Year for the second time.

Emilis Bartkus, a third-year student at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering, was named the best indoor volleyball player in the National Student Volleyball League.

Kasparas Šulčys, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Transport Engineering, was recognised as the Best Student Athlete of the Year at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.

Lukas Prokopavičius, a second-year student at the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences, was recognised as VILNIUS TECH Athlete of the Year. His coach, Dalius Pavliukovičius, a graduate of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering, was also awarded.

1st place – European Triathlon Championship, Valencia (age group 20–24)

Algirdas Kuoris (Faculty of Electronics) was recognised as VGTU Athlete of the Year, along with his coach Algirdas Šulinskas.

1st place – Lithuanian Student Sambo Championship
2nd place – SELL International Student Games, Greco-Roman wrestling
2nd place – SELL International Student Games, judo
Regina Plentauskaitė, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Mechanics, was named the Best Athlete of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU). She is a powerlifting athlete, SELL Games champion, and Lithuanian Student Championship winner.
Emilija Serapinaitė, a fourth-year student at the Faculty of Business Management, was awarded as the Best Athlete of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. She is a modern pentathlon athlete, Lithuanian Youth Fencing Champion, SELL Student Games swimming champion, Lithuanian Student Champion, and Lithuanian Vice-Champion in swimming.
Paulius Pupinis, a student at the Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute and a powerlifting athlete, was named the Best Student Athlete of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University for the third consecutive year.
His achievements in 2016:
1st place – Lithuanian Student Powerlifting Championship
2nd place – SELL International Student Games
6th place – European Junior Championship (classic, without equipment)
7th place – World Junior Championship
1st place – Lithuanian Junior Bench Press Championship
1st place – Lithuanian Powerlifting Cup
His coach, Vitalijus Stachovas, was also awarded.
Paulius Pupinis (AGAI) was named Athlete of the Year.

3rd place – World Junior Powerlifting Championship (Hungary)
