VILNIUS TECH Faculty of Architecture community invites you to a presentation of fourth-year students' research on the city of Newcastle and a discussion with Prof. Jan Gehl on October 29, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. in the Faculty of Architecture Library.
Every year, fourth-year architecture students carry out projects in different countries in three stages: researching the urban and architectural features of the area, proposing a concept for the development strategy of the territory, and detailing the solutions. This year, the Department of Urban Design is focusing on the city of Newcastle (UK). On October 29, students will present the results of the first stage, and Prof. Jan Gehl will share his insights and experience.
Architect and urban planner Jan Gehl is a professor emeritus at the Royal Danish Academy and has been running his studio, Gehl Architects – Urban Quality Consultants, for more than 50 years, advising urban designers around the world.
Prof. Jan Gehl's book Cities for People has become this century's urban manifesto, reminding us that cities can and must be alive, safe, sustainable, and healthy. Streets should be pleasant to walk on, convenient to cycle on, cozy to be in, and easy to meet in. Simply good to live in.
