Faculty coordinators for international relations

Every exchange student is assigned to a particular faculty according to the courses chosen, the assigned faculty is indicated in the Letter of Acceptance and/or Learning Agreement.

Each faculty has a coordinator for international relations. Faculty coordinators are responsible for advising incoming exchange students on academic issues, organization of studies, academic regulations, and requirements. If students have any questions concerning studies or learning agreements, they should be addressed to the faculty coordinators.

Contact details of faculty coordinators are available here.

Lithuanian language course

Lithuanian Language Course (LLC) offers international students an opportunity to study one of the oldest languages in the world.

Students can take basic LLC which will help them with daily life in Lithuania. Exchange students who would like to attend LLC at VILNIUS TECH must select it while completing their online application. Students can also add LLC to their Learning Agreement within 3 weeks after the beginning of studies.

The course is free of charge and is organized at a convenient time, starting from the second week of the semester.

Successful completion of the course is worth 3 ECTS credits.

Physical activity course

VILNIUS TECH Sports and Arts Center offers physical activity courses for exchange students.

The final list of sports teams/groups is announced only a few weeks prior to the semester; therefore, students can add a course to their Learning Agreement only after arrival at VILNIUS TECH.

Successful completion of the course is worth 3 ECTS credits.

More information is available on the website of Sports and Arts Center.

Accommodation

Students can choose to live in the University dormitory, youth hostels and/or hotels, or to rent a private apartment in the city.

VILNIUS TECH dormitory

VILNIUS TECH international student dormitory is located on Saulėtekis campus. It takes about 7-10 min to walk to the Central building and faculties of Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Business Management and Fundamental Sciences.

Address: Dormitory No 6, Saulėtekio al. 39A-1, Vilnius.

Registration for a place in VILNIUS TECH dormitory starts in mid-June/mid-December. Registration details are provided ONLY to accepted exchange students.

The price for 1 person in the shared dormitory room is 200-240 EUR/month. The deposit (300 EUR) has to be paid within 3 days after arrival.

Due to a limited number of available places, the single room option is not available.

For more information, please visit our website or contact dormitory administrator Jonas Rutkauskas directly at crypt:PGEgaHJlZj0ibWFpbHRvOmpvbmFzLnJ1dGthdXNrYXNAdmlsbml1c3RlY2gubHQiPmpvbmFzLnJ1dGthdXNrYXNAdmlsbml1c3RlY2gubHQ8L2E+:xx.

Youth hostel or hotel

There is a variety of hostels and hotels which may meet your preferences and needs. Hostels are optional for students looking for short-term rent at a lower cost. Hotels can offer higher quality and service.

Some youth hostels in Vilnius that are student-friendly:
  • Filaretai hostel
  • Hostel Jamaika
  • Downtown Forest Hostel & Camping
  • Co-living space Chapters
Students should keep in mind that hostels usually offer short-term accommodation. You may use this option if you plan to look for a long-term rent after arrival.

There are also a few long-term accommodation oriented hotels in Vilnius:
  • Corner Hotel
  • Green Hotel

Private accommodation

It is also possible to rent a flat in the city. The price for a 1 bedroom flat in the city is around 200-400 EUR per month though well-furnished places tend to be more expensive.

You can find some offers in en.aruodas.lt, en.domoplius.lt, Airbnb or other similar websites.

Our tips:
  • Sharing an apartment with other students is cheaper than living alone;
  • carefully read the rental agreement, ask for a translation to the English language;
  • be aware of scammers;
  • ask your mentor (local student) to make the first call;
  • it is more complicated to find a place for 5-6 months than for 9-12 months. Negotiate with the landlord to sign a contract for a shorter period by offering your service to find other students to stay after your departure. There are always new exchange students coming each semester.
Should you need any help or guidance with finding the most suitable place, please contact us at crypt:PGEgaHJlZj0ibWFpbHRvOmV4Y2hhbmdlQHZpbG5pdXN0ZWNoLmx0Ij5leGNoYW5nZUB2aWxuaXVzdGVjaC5sdDwvYT4=:xx.

IMPORTANT! For COVID-19 related entry restrictions, please visit the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Immigration regulations

FOR NON-EU CITIZENS:
Students coming from non-EU countries and staying in Lithuania for a period longer than 90 days, need to obtain a National (D) visa.

Students can obtain a visa from the Embassy of Lithuania in their country prior to arrival to Lithuania (if there is no Lithuanian embassy in your country, you will have to go to the nearest one available). The list of embassies and their contacts can be found in the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Students are not advised to enter Lithuania visa free, as it is not in accordance with the laws and regulations of visa-free travelling and it may cause problems when reaching the first Schengen area country.

Students in need of visa should contact International Relations Office not later than two months prior the planned arrival to Vilnius, in order to prepare and arrange the required documentation in time.

The up-to-date information about the process of visa application is available in the website of our Migration department.

International Relations Office supports all incoming exchange students and provide them with information and guidance through the process.

FOR NON-EU CITIZENS STUDYING IN EUROPEAN HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION:
Students that have a valid temporary residence permit or a national visa issued by another Member State of the European Union for study purposes and covered by a programme funded by the European Union or its Member States that promotes the mobility of third-country nationals within the European Union or an agreement between two or more higher educational institutions, may come to continue studies and stay in the Republic of Lithuania without a visa for a maximum of 360 days.

FOR EU/EEA CITIZENS:
Citizens from EU/EEA countries and Switzerland are not required a visa to enter Lithuania. However, students staying in Lithuanian for a period longer than 90 days, must obtain a certificate of temporary residence in the Republic of Lithuania and declare a place of residence.
VILNIUS TECH faculties support students with the process by providing the confirmation of their student status.
More information about the required documents is available in the website of our Migration Department.

Health Insurance

All international students are obliged to bring medical insurance valid in Lithuania for the study period.

FOR EU/EEA CITIZENS
Students coming from the EU/EEA countries are required to have European health insurance card (EHIC) or form E111, confirming that student has EU health insurance.
More information about EHIC.

Study procedures: middle tests, homework and course projects

Students have to settle on all middle tests, homework, course projects and other independent assignments before the exam session. Students who fail to pass the course project (including complex) by the deadline cannot attend the exam.

Students who did not settle for the middle tests, homework, course projects and other independent assignments during the semester, they can do that during the exam session before the exam with the prior registration in the department.

Students who failed to settle for half of the assignments before the exam are not entitled for the cumulative assessment scores.

Before submitting the course project (complex project) student has to fill in and the Declaration of authorship. If the plagiarism is detected, the lecturer has to inform the dean of the faculty and the disciplinary actions will be taken.

Examination session

Exams schedule for students must be published at least one month before the start of the exam session. The session schedules are published in VILNIUS TECH information system mano.vgtu.lt

The exam results are announced within two days after the exam.

Examination retakes are organized after the examination session. If a student, for justified reasons, can not take the exam during the exam session, the Dean sets a new date, postponing the session with the Dean's decree. Master students, whose studies are organized in cycles, can take each subject exam before the end of the session only once.

Exams 'E1' (e.g., language courses, physical activity, etc.) are taken before the exam session. Exams "E" are taken during the exam session according to the session schedule.

Business Management faculty Master cycle studies are organized in cycles (one course is followed for approx. 1 month, intensively). Examinations of these courses are organised at the end of each cycle.
