History of the Faculty
The history of construction studies in Vilnius dates back to 1780, when Vilnius Academy began teaching courses related to construction, including Applied Mathematics, Hydrostatics, Building Materials, and Structural Engineering.
At the University of Lithuania in Kaunas, the Faculty of Technology began operating and organised study programmes for construction specialists.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering was established at Kaunas University.
The Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) was established, and the Faculty of Civil Engineering operated within it.
In Vilnius, the Vilnius Evening Branch of the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) was established, where students were admitted to study construction engineering.
The Vilnius Branch of the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI) was reorganised into the KPI Vilnius Evening Faculty, which included the Departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Applied Mechanics.
The KPI Vilnius Evening Faculty was reorganised into the Vilnius Branch of the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI). Construction engineering students studied at the Faculty of Mechanics.
The Faculty of Construction Economics was established at the Vilnius Branch of the Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI).
The Vilnius Branch was reorganised into the Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute (VISI).
The VISI Faculty of Construction Economics was renamed the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
The Faculty was relocated to Vilnius and has successfully operated there ever since.
The Vilnius Civil Engineering Institute became the Vilnius Technical University (VTU).
Prof habil Dr Edmundas Kazimieras Zavadskas was elected to the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
The Vilnius Technical University was named after Grand Duke Gediminas and became Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU).
Prof habil Dr Rimantas Kačianauskas was elected to the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
Prof habil Dr Artūras Kaklauskas was elected to the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
Prof habil Dr Gintaris Kaklauskas was elected to the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
Prof Dr Juozas Valivonis was elected to the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences.
