Lithuanian language
Over 80% of Lithuanians consider the Lithuanian language to be their mother tongue. Lithuanian is one of the oldest languages alive, originating from the Baltic branch of Indo-European languages along with German, Roman and Slavic languages. Lithuanian also retains the nominal morphology found in Sanskrit and Latin. Lithuanian utilizes an adapted version of the Roman alphabet allowing foreigners to easily read text.
Although most Lithuanians are fluent in English, it is less common outside of large cities. It is always useful to know key phrases, so here is an introductory lesson.
