Future activities of BALTECH and NORDTEK discussed at VGTU
On 10 October, a meeting of representatives of BALTECH and NORDTEK organisations took place at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU). This meeting was organised as part of cooperation between the two organisations, which unite technical universities. NORDTEK is a university consortium between rectors/deans of the technical universities/faculties in the Nordic countries, and BALTECH is a Baltic Sea region university consortium for science and technology. Further strengthening of cooperation and partnership between the universities of Baltic and Nordic countries has been discussed during the meeting.
The parties are working on a strategy and an activity plan to meet the needs of constantly changing and developing network of technical universities. One of the meeting’s goals – to discuss the possibilities for development of BALTECH in the area of exchange, but more importantly in the area of research. While discussing cooperation, representatives of the organisations talked about the future of BALTECH, possible activities and various forms to implement them. The discussion also addressed a clearer role that VGTU plays in the Baltic region.
The participants of the meeting were the Secretary General of the NORDTECH Peter Göranson, the Executive Director of the BALTECH Juris Iljins and VGTU representatives ¬– Rector prof. Alfonsas Daniūnas, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation prof. Antanas Čenys and Vice-Rector for Strategic Partnership dr. Asta Radzevičienė.
This was a follow-up meeting after the decision on the merger of BALTECH and NORDTECH. In June 2018, during the conference of both organisations in Riga a cooperation agreement on VGTU’s membership in the NORDTEK has been signed.
This cooperation agreement means a closer cooperation in the areas of education, research and innovation. It will provide more opportunities for joint European projects and will contribute to sustainable long-term cooperation for increased competitiveness of the Nordic and Baltic countries in the global arena of higher education and research.
