Brave stories of VGTU Architecture graduates
We introduce a continuous cycle of interviews – brave stories of VGTU architecture graduates, proving that our success depends very much on ourselves. Arminas Sadzevičius, Milda Naujalytė and Donatas Baltrušaitis are young, innovative, ambitious and successful architects whose architectural discoveries and experiences began in the VGTU Faculty of Architecture.
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University Bachelor graduate in architecture of 2011, Arminas Sadzevičius is one of the successful former students of VGTU. Afterwards getting the Master's degree in the Royal Academy of Denmark in Copenhagen, the architect shares his story: "I have worked in various international foreign offices such as the NL Architects, OMA and EFFEKT. Currently living in Denmark, the young professional develops his innovative projects in a famous company called ADEPT. One of the most interesting projects that he has laid his hand on - implementation of "Prada" museum in Milan. “The studies of architecture were always in the first place for me. Excellent feedback of former students of this speciality in VGTU prompted to take this step as well” - answered Arminas on why he chose this university. The architect shared his positive experience: "Throughout the process of studies I have learned architectural basics and critical thinking. We used to share experiences and knowledge with other course mates. Study experience together with personal ambitions helped to rise in our careers." The myth that the students of architecture are the record holders of sleepless nights, Arminas agrees partly: "The most interesting part of architectural studies is the process. Yes, it's intense - you always want to develop and improve your projects, but in order to avoid sleepless nights you have to plan the process carefully."
Another young ambitious architect, raised by Vilnius Gediminas Technical University - Milda Naujalytė. After graduating in 2011, Milda carried out a practice in a well known company of Amsterdam called NL architects. After the practice followed Master's studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Copenhagen, during which Milda also practiced at COBE company. After graduating, she joined a Danish company Henning Larsen, where she works until now. The projects on which Milda has been working are really miscellaneous: “Along with “Henning Larsen“, I took part on projects such as “WTC Performing Arts Center“ in New York, the National Museum of Budapest, the Latvian Museum of Contemporary Art LMoCA in Riga, Lund university‘s Faculty of Medicine project “Forum Medicum“, on which development I‘m still working.“ When asked about the studies at VGTU and the contribution of it, the young architect shared her memories: "I chose VGTU because of the study program and several recommendations. What I liked the most were my ambitious and interesting coursemates and several inspiring teachers, who taught to think critically. The University formed basic skills of my profession as well as my personal ambitions."
And last but not least - VGTU Architecture graduate of 2011 Donatas Baltrušaitis now plays the role of the town planner and innovator in architecture. He acquired his Master's degree in the university “TU Delft” and gained international experience in Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain. Currently working in BUUR, Donatas also takes part in ISOCARP – International Society of City and Regional Planners – activities. Donatas shares his academic experience of VGTU: “I’ve chosen this university because of the architecture studies quality in the context of Lithuania at that time. The faculty of Architecture has a few completely dedicated lecturers, who taught not only the profession, but also life-understanding. The faculty provided great technical knowledge, which helped moving forward.” When asked about the university contribution for an architect, the graduate answered very simply:" I wouldn’t be an architect-urbanist without the help of university right now, so, I guess, the studies had a big impact.
