Entry Qualification	To this programme applicants are accepted from the fields of: Aerospace Engineering, Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Production and Manufacturing Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Transport Engineering.

The programme offers a double degree possibility with the University of Palermo, Italy, or Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto, Portugal. Students spend the first year of their studies in VILNIUS TECH and the second year in the other chosen university. After graduation, students receive both VILNIUS TECH and the other chosen university Master's degree diplomas.

Hybrid learning approach is applied in this study programme. Hybrid learning is an educational model where some students attend class in-person, while others join the class virtually from home.

Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest branches of engineering, in which many different fields of science intersect. We are confronted with various mechanical systems on a daily basis and with every step we take. Among them are technological machines and mechanisms, transport, agricultural, construction machinery and mechanisms, energy equipment as well as household machines and devices.

Mechanical engineers use the principles of motion, force, and energy to ensure that mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably at the lowest possible design, manufacturing, and operating costs.

The study program aims to foster innovative and independent ways of thinking, train leadership and innovation skills, build student capability required to conduct mechanical engineering research, technology development and implementation, and solve specialized technical and technological problems of mechanical engineering. The studies are intended for those interested in the innovations of mechanical engineering science, those who are able to critically analyze and perceive the impact and significance of their decisions on the societal development as well as pursue continuous professional development through lifelong learning.

The Master's study program in Mechanical Engineering offers a choice of the following two tracks - Design and Manufacture of Environmental Protection Equipment or Design and Manufacture of Mechanical Systems.

If you opt for the track of Environmental Equipment Design and Manufacturing, you will deepen your knowledge on new technologies from an environmental point of view by undertaking a comprehensive analysis of the said technologies. You will gain knowledge about the new technological processes and optimization of efficiency, reliability and cost-effectiveness of pollutant treatment methods, the best available production methods and their implementation in the ecosystem with the least detrimental impact, clean technologies and their development trends.

You will master the design methods of environmental protection system equipment and develop the skills of choosing the right materials for the production of equipment. You will also gain the skills of preparing the terms of reference (ToR), which specify requirements for detailed design documentation based on general design criteria and environmental requirements. You will also develop the ability to perform an assessment of work safety requirements and choose proper measures to implement them.

If you opt for the specialization of Mechanical Systems Design and Production, you will be introduced to the structure of mechanical systems, components, evaluation of the mechanical part of systems and methods of modeling mechanical systems. You will demonstrate the ability to perform analysis, diagnostics and monitoring of mechanical system types. You will also build the capability to assess the reliability of mechanical systems, the changing trends in their performance characteristics and the leading causes of such changes.

You will analyze the properties of mechanical systems by modeling the new systems, gain the skills to interpret the theoretical and experimental results obtained during laboratory observation and choose the right methods and tools for measuring the diagnostic parameters of mechanical systems.

The specialization in Mechanical Systems Design and Production can be studied in Lithuanian or English.

What competencies shall I acquire?

The Master's Degree Program in Mechanical Engineering is designed to master the following skills:

to develop, improve and conduct research of modern equipment, to select methods and tools for measuring their diagnostic parameters, to perform diagnostics and monitoring, to process data, to appropriately report the findings, to perform modeling and analysis of equipment using information technologies;
to design equipment and conduct its reliability assessment, the trends in changes of their performance characteristics and the leading causes of such changes, to interpret theoretical and experimental results obtained during laboratory tests, to classify them in terms of relevance and reliability of explanatory theories and environmental protection;
to analyze the development trends of mechanical engineering, safety and maintenance aspects, fault-finding methodology, statistical research and diagnostic methods, peculiarities of installation of complex mechanical systems;
to solve non typical, incompletely defined problems of engineering analysis of mechanical systems and engineering tasks, applying theoretical models and research methods;.
to apply modern experimental research methods and tools in the improvement of mechanical systems and environmental protection equipment.
