COVID-19 FAQ

The symptoms of coronavirus are similar to the symptoms of flu: a high temperature, a cough, feeling short of breath and other respiratory disorders, muscle pain and fatigue. More complicated cases of coronavirus may lead to pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney insufficiency or death.

Preventive measures
It is important to remember, that washing hands is the most important preventive measure against contracting virus. Hands should be washed frequently and thoroughly with water and soap for at least 20 seconds. In case there is no water and soap, use alcohol-based hand sanitiser containing at least 60% of alcohol. Also avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

FAQ for new full-time international students FAQ for returning international students FAQ for exchange students FAQ before Erasmus studies

COVID-19 prevention

What means of protection the University is using?

The University constantly performs disinfection of surfaces (door handles, armrests, etc.). Disinfectant liquid for hands can be found at all the entrances to Vilnius Tech.

Considering the seriousness of the situation, and the high probability that the Lithuanian government may extend the quarantine period, all university courses will now be held through our distance learning facilities, commencing March 30.

What to do if I think that I might have been infected with COVID-19?

If you feel symptoms, such as fever, cough, shortness of breath or other respiratory problems, if you experience muscle pain or fatigue, please call immediately the Emergency Help Centre line 1808 and follow medical advice.

Studies during COVID-19

What do I need to know about study process in 2021?

Lectures shall be given in accordance to the valid timetable of the autumn semester of the 2020/2021 academic year and published in the University website ManoVGTU.

2020-2021 a. y. spring semester schedules must be made in a way that ensures safety of individuals involved in the study process and with regard to decisions of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Lithuania – the Head of State Operations in the State of Emergency.

Until 2021 April 5th all study process is organized in the remote mode, except internships organized by Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute which will be carried out with regard to Vilnius Gediminas Technical University Description of the Procedure for the Organization of Practical Aviation Training in the Event of Emergency (due to COVID-19 coronavirus infection) approved by Vilnius Gediminas Technical University Rector’s order No. 10.8-469.

From 2021 April 6th study process will be carried out in the hybrid mode, i. e. remote lectures will be coordinated with practice and laboratory works in the premises of the University. Decisions regarding study process organization, taking into consideration the need for self-isolation, will be made by Dean’s order coordinated with the Vice-Rector for Studies.

Schedules must indicate which activities will be carried out in the remote mode and which will be carried ordinary.

Master’s degree studies will be carried out in the remote mode, except practice and laboratory works, which from 2021 April 6th will be organized in the premises of the University.

Laboratory works (Physics, chemistry etc.) must be organized in the following manner: 1st, 3rd and 4th, 6th lecture time, while leaving gaps in schedule for disinfection through 2nd and 5th lectures. In the presence of small student group (up to 8 students), laboratory works can be carried out without leaving the gaps through 2nd and 5th lectures.

Laboratory works which must be carried out while using specific equipment in the premises of the University cannot be changed to computational, filmed or other tasks in the spring semester.

Foreign students must arrive to Lithuania until 2021 April 6th. For objective reasons foreign students that cannot come to Lithuania until the deadline, which are subject to quarantine in Lithuania, will have the opportunity to carry out laboratory and practice works according to individual schedule.

What students and teachers have to know about the study process during COVID-19?

Lectures shall be given in accordance to the valid timetable of the autumn semester of the 2020/2021 academic year and published in the University website ManoVGTU.

All in-class activities and laboratory works are shall be replaced by on-line classes delivered by means of Zoom application. On-line lectures may be read from home or any other location provided a stable Internet connection and necessary hardware.

University lecturers shall, in a clear form, submit an Zoom lectures link in the Moodle virtual learning environment along with description of each training subject.

During the lecture the teacher presents and explains to the students the usual material prepared in digital format: slides (pptx), text documents (docx, pdf, etc.), web pages.
Instructions on the use of Zoom applications can be found at  http://bit.do/ESG04. Zoom sessions are set to last for 40 minutes (a session automatically terminates in 40 minutes). You must log in again.

Alternatively (if the teacher informs about it in advanced), the video conferencing application Teams may be used on demand. Teams tutorial may be found at http://bit.do/ESG06.

Before starting on-line classes, it is essential to try the software in advance. Make sure your computer is connected to a stable Internet connection and the camcorder and speakers are working properly. A microphone is needed for the discussions, consultations with the teachers and for settlements. As an alternative to a computer, smartphones or tablets can be used.

How to use virtual learning environment “Moodle”?

Every lecturer shall provide an appropriate group of students with an access to a subject taught in Moodle environment.

Instructions of how to use Moodle virtual learning environment are provided in the module of the Moodle Guide of the Electronic Study Group at http://bit.do/ESG01

When using VLE Moodle, the website ManoVGTU or ZOOM application and connecting outside the university network, it is not necessary to use VGTU VPN (virtual private network).

Students' assessments, according to the possibilities, are organized during video conferences, as well as in the Moodle learning environment using tests, tasks, etc.

Zoom video conferencing, Moodle news forum or advertising tools are recommended for communication with teachers and consultations.

The E-study group cannot provide assistance to teachers and students who use tools other than those recommended.
