What is the purpose of this study programme?
The study program seeks to equip Biomechanics professionals with the necessary skills to seamlessly transition into the job market within the realms of medical and biomechanical engineering. Graduates will be well-positioned for employment in industrial or state enterprises, as well as other sectors of their choosing. Alternatively, these individuals may choose to further their education, making valuable contributions to the country and society. Through the application of acquired engineering practices, critical thinking skills, and a commitment to continuous professional development, they will actively contribute to the well-being and progress of the community.
What will students learn?
- Will gain basic knowledge in fundamental sciences, biomechanics and engineering, and integrate the methods and processes of other fields of science into the multidisciplinary engineering context.
- Will acquire knowledge about the social and psychological problems of the disabled, the technical aids of the design, possibilities and principals of the environment adaption and technical assistance means.
- Will be able to plan and conduct experimental research, analyze and interpret the received data. Skills in working with special equipment.
- Will be competent to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems; able to select and apply appropriate analytical and modeling methods; able to design a system, unit or process to achieve the desired goal and with real economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, technology and sustainability constraints.
- Will be able to understand design techniques and be able to apply them; able to choose and apply modern engineering methods and skills, tools necessary for professional activities.
- Will be capable to combine theoretical and applied engineering knowledge to solve problems, to understand the influence of engineering decisions in the global, economic, environmental and social context.
- Will be able to work independently and in the multidisciplinary teams, communicate effectively, observe professional ethics and engineering norms, and understand the responsibility for engineering activities.
- Will understand the importance of individual lifelong learning and will be prepared for it.
Where is it possible to study abroad?
Number of ERASMUS partners across Europe opens opportunities to spend a semester or two, work on Master Thesis in the Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, UK, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Poland, Taiwan, South Korea, Portugal, Sweden and many other countries. VGTU is collaborating with the organization ESEM (Educating Students in Engineering and Medicine, www.esem.eu) – more than 15 partner institutions provide online lectures in biomedical engineering, visiting teachers, student workshops and webconferences, thus opening many possibilities to gain experience in the field of biomechanics, medical engineering, and bioengineering.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR EXPERIENCE
You will have plenty of opportunities to apply and diversity your skills through graduate projects, internships, career programmes, clubs and societies.
What about career opportunities after Bachelor's degree studies?
Biomechanics is an interdisciplinary study program closely related to biomechanics and biomedical engineering, so the nature and role of work may differ from the choice of specifics. Persons with the Bachelor in Engineering qualification degree successfully engage in multidisciplinary teams in health care centres, hospitals and medical equipment companies, orthopaedic companies, laboratories and research centres. Graduates can obtain appropriate job position after graduation not only in Lithuania but also abroad. After completing this program, graduates can not only work successfully but also continue their studies and pursue a master's degree.
